Harald Darrowdelve is no longer a laughingstock. He's a rising threat.

His recent delves into the dungeon have transformed him from a disgraced heir into a name whispered by nobles and feared by rivals. His explosive gain in power has caught the eye of every major House in Flutic—and none of them believe it was luck.

Now Harald must navigate a maze of political seductions, shadowy threats, and veiled demands. Some Houses offer patronage. Others offer thinly veiled ultimatums. All want a piece of the secret that let him ascend.

But Harald's not looking to sell out. He's building something of his own: A crew. A charter. A new way forward. One that just might survive the games the Houses play.

Unless the Houses decide to kill him first.

There are a lot of series rolling out and many I find poorly written and disappointingly similar to one another.

This series is the best I’ve read in a while. I just hope the next book is available soon!

Best New Series Out There

I strongly encourage any fantasy fan to pick up this series. It is truly excellent.

Fantastic!

I’m having a difficult time listening to all the preaching done in this book. It feels like the author is blatantly trying to change characters personalities to fuel some sort of “deeper” message he wants to be delivered. It takes away from the story a bit. You have a main character, who lives a life of privilege. A society who embraces and rewards power, then gets enhanced by a demon to find out that power for powers sake is bad(?). How would that view point have been derived in this society? Then queue in his friends who also seemed to have miraculously arrived at the same conclusion, in pure contradiction to almost everything that is known(?). To chastise him in doing exactly what EVERYTHING (society, peers, family, religion, and philosophy) is telling him to do. Gain power. How did they arrive at the conclusion that it is wrong? That each life has intrinsic value? This jump in logic that the MC’s choices would deviate far enough from social norm to invoke an emotional reaction strong enough for him to get chastised for it? How? I don’t see how this is possible.
