Publisher's summary

In January 2003, Nick Sparks and his brother Micah set off on a three-week trip around the world. It was to mark a milestone in their lives, for at 35 and 36, respectively, they were now the only surviving members of their family. As Nick and Micah travel the globe, the intimate story of their tragic family legacy unfolds in the details of the untimely deaths of their parents and only sister. Against the backdrop of the wonders of the world, the Sparks brothers bond together to heal, to remember, and to learn to live life to the fullest.

Critic reviews

"This is a rare opportunity for readers to get to know a favorite author as Nicholas reveals the inspirations for his fiction. A must-read for Sparks fans as well as a treat for those who want to find out what makes a family strong." (Booklist)
"Refreshingly honest and perceptive....Weaving in vignettes of tenderness and loss with travelogue-like observations, Sparks's account shows how he and his brother both evolved on this voyage." (Publishers Weekly)

Three weeks with my brother

I loved this book. It gave much insight into who Nicholas Sparks is. It was easy to relate with him after such an awesome life story. I loved his views on life and tragedy. His life has made him the author he is today

Surprised by how much I liked it!

Huge Nick Sparks fan, but wasn't too interested in reading a memoir so it sat on my shelf for years...I am so glad I did! From start to finish it was great, funny and heartbreaking. Definitely recommend!

Weaving

I enjoyed this book very much. The narrator had good tone and expression. You knew who was who and felt the persons feelings. I also liked how he used his parents as people he loved and admire. We are not perfect, but when a child gives you the understanding that you tried your best but knows you still love them. It brings us relief. Also he let us into his person life and helped us to see that we may look different but we all go through hard and sometimes tragic times in our lives.

A reflection of family....

While I'm normally a person who likes books to escape, this book really got me to be reflective about what family means to me and how important my brother's are in my own development as a person. It's amazing how much a single person can accomplish (or put upon himself) when faced with situations like the authors. A fantastic listen and a great production by the reader...looking forward to take a trip around the world with MY brother's real soon!

A must read for any Nicholas Sparks fan

What did you love best about Three Weeks with My Brother?

I learned so much about the Sparks family - and where Nicholas found the beautiful & inspiring books/movies that we all love to cry through. I was not sure what I expected, but I found the interweaving story of Nick's growing up with the amazing trip he took with Micah to be deep and meaningful. I shed a number of tears along the way... in true Sparks fashion. Nicholas is a deeply spiritual man - and in that is his strength and source of all things flowing through to his stories. I think most of us would be rubber-roomable after his childhood experiences & fears. A deeply human story - filled with inspiration & flaws.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Nicholas. He is strong despite his innate fears that should be crushing him. His trust in God is inspiring. He keeps putting one foot in front of the other and trusting that God will see him through. He deeply & truly feels for others; he puts their feelings first.

What about Henry Leyva’s performance did you like?

he was believable. I truly enjoyed listening to him. It was as if Nicholas himself was reading the story... and I have never heard Nicholas' Sparks voice! Henry read the story as if the words & story were his own personal reflections & memories.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

His sister's death. I really hoped her optimism would see her through. That Nicholas was astute enough to back off when he realized how much more important it was for her husband & inlaws to have their time to say their goodbyes actually had me sobbing as I walked down the street.

Any additional comments?

Highly recommended. Have tissues handy - you'll need them. For both laughing & crying.

A must read for Sparks' fans!

I had only read/heard a couple of Nicholas Sparks' books before listening to Three Weeks With My Brother on recommendation from my mother in law that his stories take on new meaning once you know his own story. She was absolutely right! I highly recommend this one first if you're new to Nicholas Sparks.

Started slow and then picked up when Nicholas and Micah began their interactions and journeys.

Great read for Sparks fans

This reads more like one of his novels than his life story. Hard to believe it's about his life. Makes me appreciate him as a writer even more. Great book!
