Odd & cheesy with inflectionless narrator
This got good reviews from others so I feel almost bad that I didn't like it. The storyline was extra tame, with flat narration even during the parts that were supposed to be steamy. There were things that were mispronounced as well. For example, Jack's son was reading The Odyssey, someone suggested next he might read The Iliad, but it was very mispronounced (Eye-LEE-id verses ILL-ee-id.) And at the end of one sentence, you could tell he meant to say "son" as he was addressing his son, but the narrator said "so." Just so distracting. I know this was short, but there was no development of the relationship between them... one minute they have significant others (a baby daddy and a wife), and the next minute the baby daddy goes overseas and abandons his baby and Jack has an instantaneous divorce. And for not having had sex before they got weirdly dirty right away. Just a mess. I feel almost guilty putting this out there, but it's how I felt about this title! Maybe it's because I'm the only reviewer who didn't receive a free copy in exchange for a review.
