Publisher's summary

Did you know that Thomas Jefferson rewrote the Bible?

Although one can speak of Thomas Jefferson in a tediously factual way, he was an enigma. Historically, he is noted for writing the Declaration of Independence, which was a daring and courageous statement of the rights of Americans and, indeed, of all people.

Hidden beneath the many cloaks of legalistic terminologies that he was fond of using, all the strengths and vulnerabilities of Jefferson as a man were there, too. Like many people of today, he had a difficult childhood. He also liked to party while in college and loved to play the fiddle.

The names of his friends and colleagues are featured in all the history books of yesteryear and today - Patrick Henry, John Adams, George Washington, Lewis and Clark, Benjamin Harrison, and Lafayette. Thomas Jefferson also knew the scoundrels of the day like Benedict Arnold and Aaron Burr.

He was not only a lawyer, a statesman, and a founding father of the USA but a political and moral philosopher. He even rewrote the Bible. But that's not all....

Enjoyed this book...

Well written and researched. I thought the author's view was fairly objective. All data is well managed and greatly visualized.

Living in the history, I am part of it now.

A very complicated person who did accomplish many difficult tasks for the fledgling Nation. We reap the benefits of his efforts every day.

Good read, very informative.

Great book about one of America's founding father's. This is a great biography of a 'man of his times'. We would do well today to follow his guidance in this crazy misled world. This tells much more than what we learned in school history classes. I highly recommend reading this book.

A great story...

A decent overview of Rome under the early emperors. Of course, nothing you read will tell you everything there is to know, but this book is a worthwhile addition to your library.

Nicely written bio of Jefferson.

Good read, very informative. The writer has an easy style, but two many quotations from others. I would prefer more depth. It dies give a good overview of his political life.

Great book about America's founding father's.

This is A critical biography of our third President. The author clearly struggles to explain how the author of the the famous "all men are created equal" in the Declaration of Independence could have shuck a strong view on slavery. The author highlights the differences between Gorge Washington's handling of slaves (freeing them in his will) and Thomas Jefferson's keeping a concubine.

Balanced portrait of a President.

The author did a good job of presenting all facets of Jefferson the man. One improvement of the online version of the book would be a closer look at grammatical usage and sentence structure.

Our great third President.

The author did with remarkable praise for Jefferson, given the criticism throughout the book, "Examining his failings is worthwhile because it reminds us that even the truly great are liable to err due to cultural bias, self-interest, and simple ignorance."
