Publisher's Summary

An ingeniously witty novel about the risks - and rewards - of opening your life to new people by Amazon Charts bestselling author Camille Pagán.

No new people: that's Annie Mercer's vow. It's bad enough that her boss sabotaged her chemistry career and her best friend tried to cure her with crystals. But after her fiancé, Jon, asks for space while he's gallivanting around Paris, Annie decides she needs space too - from everyone.

Yet when Harper moves in next door, Annie can't help but train a watchful eye on the glamorous but fragile young woman. And if keeping Harper safe requires teaming up with Mo, a maddeningly optimistic amateur detective, who is she to mind her own business?

Soon Annie has let not one but two new people into her life. Then Jon reappears - and he wants her to join him in France. She's pretty sure letting anyone get close won't end well. So she must decide: Is another shot at happiness worth the risk?

Critic Reviews

“Right on trend with books about strong-willed women, this is a fun and uplifting story. Will be popular with fans of Jennifer Weiner and Maria Semple.” (Library Journal)

“The book’s format includes diary entries, texts, and emails, giving the reader a glimpse of Annie’s robust inner life - she may seem standoffish and distant, but there’s a lot going on behind the scenes...[Annie’s] journey takes unexpected, poignant turns, delving into deeper issues while maintaining a positive tone and peppy pace. Fans of Sarah Haywood and Gail Honeyman will appreciate the quirky, yet thoughtfully presented, characters.” (Booklist

“Never has a quirky lead character been so lovable or well drawn as Annie, the lovelorn chemist who carries This Won’t End Well. Though she pretends to be closed off to the world, in fact she can’t stop caring - and that push-pull of who to let into her life, and under what terms, is something we all understand at a soul-deep level. Annie’s journey from oblivious in love to aware and empowered had me cheering and turning the pages madly, unable to tear myself away. If you want to laugh and lose yourself in a great read, this is the one for you!” (Kelly Harms, best-selling author of The Overdue Life of Amy Byler)

Meh

I didn't love it but I didn't hate it. The story went a long well and the characters developed well and the ending came together great I just don't think it is something I would go back to again or an author I would seek out.

Scientific facts vs heartfelt emotion!

Very timely. Well written. Loved the characters. The narration was excellent with just the right voice inflection. Satisfying ending. I highly recommend this book.

Very childish story

This book is very dumb. It was a total waste of my time. It’s so childish and so predictable. It should be in teen section.

Delightful

A most enjoyable read. I was engaged through the entire book. Narration was great. I’ll look for more books from both the author and narrator.

First person narrative....

The narration was great.
The plot/story line was good. The main character, Annie, has issues with self esteem and self expression. Her journey to a more fulfilling life through friends, aquiantances, and family is explored. A good read!

Female Power

With all the craziness in the world, I wanted to read a book with meaning but one that would not make me bawl each time I listened. This was the perfect choice. Pagán kept my attention the entire time (which is not always easy for me), and opened my eyes in many ways. The female strength in this book is exactly what I needed to hear.

ugh so so

It was a decent story but it had a hard time keeping my attention. I read a book in about 2 days and this took me over a week. A little sappy and the school shooting stuff had absolutely nothing to do with the actual book. Fluff piece

Light romance well performed

Love Amy McFadden - she makes any story better. The romance itself was cotton candy for the brain - fluffy and without much substance but very sweet.

Yuck

Boring nothingness.
Boring reader and a story seeming to go nowhere slowly. Had to delete it.

I couldn't make it to the end

Maybr for a yonger crowd. Slow plot (if any). Annoying at times. Especially when reading URL , email addresses , name signatures etc. Can skip...
