Great Book - Terrible Performance

What did you love best about This Thing Called You?

This book is required reading for the Practitioner I course with Centers for Spiritual Living.
It is a powerfully affirmative text
It is filled with many Ernest Holmes affirmations. I desired a portable version to take with me and to listen to before falling asleep. I find it useful to read and listen simultaneously to drive the lessons into my mind.

What was one of the most memorable moments of This Thing Called You?

The text is a heart-warming, Spirit-filling, affirmative bedtime story. Ernest Holmes' words are the perfect thing to ponder while falling asleep.

How could the performance have been better?

A different narrator. It almost sounds like a computer synthesized the text. First it was too fast. Using the slower narration speed option made listening more unpleasant. The voice did not reproduce the emotion, encouragement, hope, and joy of the text.
I had attempted to record the affirmations in my voice for myself. I was even more unhappy with that effort than this poor performance.
Listen to the sample and determine if you can tolerate the narration.

Any additional comments?

A heartfelt narration with emotion and a slower pace would make this audio book five stars. The text is already five stars.

Very edited version

This is one of my favorite inspiration self-help books. However, as I attempted to read along with my hard copy book, the first thing I noticed is the narration feels very rushed. Much of this book needs to be contemplated; however, the narration prevented that from happening.
Secondly, whole passages from the book were omitted from the narration. Any references to Jesus or passages in the Bible were all but removed. I don’t know if this was intended to make the book more palatable to people of other faiths, but I personally found it frustrating reading along and having to find my place in the book.

Important work by Ernest Holmes.

I didn't like how this was narrated, but after listening to a few chapters, I git used to the style.
