This novel provides a fascinating look into life in late 14th-century England, the women and men Chaucer loves, the intrigues of the Richardian court, and what compels someone who holds some of the most important jobs in the English bureaucracy to spend his nights writing poetry that is still being read and studied 600 years after his death.

Excellent

I enjoyed listening to this book very much. Although it is fiction, it seemed to be based on much research and scholarship. One surprise was the seeming commonalities between this medieval society and the one we live in today. Perhaps not quite as violent, but the descriptions of the abuses of power, and corruption felt very familiar. There is more, as this is a long book, well worth reading. Also excellent narration.
