  • Summary

  • Things You Can't Talk About On TV discusses embarrassing medical issues... in detail. Intimate, hilarious, descriptive yet completely factual detail.

GP Dr Ginni Mansberg and over-sharing journalist Shelly Horton want to remove the shame and secrecy around taboo health topics. They discuss the health questions you just don't want clogging up your internet search history, and use the latest medical research and expert knowledge to get you the answers. Even when they're not the answers you want.

From farts to strange smells, curious discharges to weird sex questions, Dr Ginni Mansberg and Shelly Horton discuss medical issues that would make a middle-aged male breakfast TV host blush.

The following podcast is rated F for frank, funky, and factual. It is not for the faint-hearted. We suggest you don't play this with kids in the car unless you're ready for some really awkward conversations.

Funny and Fun

This is the very first podcast I’ve listened to... ever. It definitely made me want to hear more!! I hope there is a new one soon. I had fun, my boyfriend had no idea why I was laughing and why I kept also the - “did you know...?” Good stuff.

Hosted by a doctor and a child

Not for the faint of heart? Then why is one hosting the show? Honestly some interesting subjects were being covered, but Shelly's screaming "ew ew ick" about everything made it unlistenable. And she still douches??? C'mon, this isn't the 50s.

A bit rubbish

Presentation hysterical and jarring, low on useful advice. Gave up after 3 episodes. Don't bother.

Could have been better.

I found the girls childish and easily offended, what kind of show was this? Was it supposed to be a fact based show, dispelling myths and tackling the really icky questions or was it just an opportunity to maginalise and discriminate? Some of the topics could have been handled more sensitively for those that may suffer from the different conditions these people were amusing themselves with and had this lady been my GP I'd have had to think twice about approaching her with any embarrassing ailment. Some of the stuff they covered was important but they were too busy giggling about it and make "ewwwww, grooooooss" noises that any important information got lost. I've seen this type of programme done better. I wouldn't bother with series 2.

Made childish

I was surprised I didn't enjoy this as normally topics like this as re right up my street, however, I felt it was delivered in a childish way as apposed to funny. Couldn't finish it and skipped though the chapters I did listen to. Was disappointed.

Reinforces 'taboos' as bad

Although the medical information given during this podcast may have been mostly accurate, the two women's delivery of the topics was embarrassingly unprofessional. Especially on the part of the medical professional who shames the experiences of patients and fetishizes very ordinary conditions - they argue they are trying to tackle the topics that are hard to talk about, and then they were perfect examples of the ignorant individuals who are the very reason that certain topics are 'taboo'. They laugh at symptoms, make jokes about people's lives, and frequently express disgust and disdain for anything that is even slightly divergent from their own female cis anatomy. Seriously disappointing.

Shelly Horton failed all of us

Disappointing to hear a middle aged woman going "yuck" and "spew" about male genitalia, female genitalia and the fluids that come out of them. Good info from Dr Ginni Mansberg drowned by Horton reacting like an ignorant teen from the 1970s. Not amusing. Sadly some young women and young men may think Horton's reactions are the way to go.

Funny and interesting

Omg really enjoyed the Travel episode how can something be so funny and interesting at the same time.

With each episode a different subject this series really is ideal.

These two keep it honest and real

Hilarious, addictive, and a MUST listen to

HILARIOUS AND SUPER ADDICTIVE. Definitely not short on the shock factor! This is truly full of all of the stuff we secretly want to know but are too afraid to ask.

Dr Ginni and Shelly (both incredible women individually) together a match made in heaven on this podcast - completely unafraid to go where Television won’t and it’s so worth it!

This is a MUST listen to, and can’t wait to hear more!

Love Ginni and Shelly!

This was such a fun podcast. It is indeed super-gross and sometimes a bit much, but I love that it was based on science but also the real-life anecdotes. Shelly was hilarious - I love how willing she is to go there!

Fabulous!

I laughed out loud during every episode. Shelly and Ginny are hilarious. They have such a great rapport. They taught me more about farts and other embarrassing bodily functions than I ever thought I needed to know. Bring on season 2!

Exactly what we SHOULD be talking about!

Informative and entertaining- this podcast is unlike any other I've listened to. The chemistry between Dr Ginni and Shelly is AMAZING- even if the topics aren't for you, every episode will have you laughing out loud (and isn't that the medicine). Just wish there was more content like this- honest but not taking itself too seriously. Love. Love. Love!

This is SO SO good! I laughed till I cried and also learnt a hell of a lot too! Shelly and Ginni are a perfect combo and love all the other people and experts that get brought in to speak too, and the real stories and examples, it's so witty!

Just disappointed

I really thought these women would openly discuss some 'shameful' issues and that it would be an empowering and educational listen. I really enjoyed the educational and judgment free way that Dr. Mansberg speaks, however the co-host Shelly Horton makes continually judgmental comments and constantly 'gags' on the show. This kind of behavior around these topics only creates more shame and reinforces the social idea that womens bodies are gross, and that our vaginas are something to be ashamed of.
