New Body, new universe, deadly problems.

As if waking up in the body of a young teenage girl wasn’t bad enough, I couldn’t remember my own name.

Worse, it turns out I’m the princess, second heir to the throne, in a kingdom full of infighting and on the brink of collapse. Advisors, nobles, people supposed to be on my side, have their own plans for the throne – the only thing keeping me alive.

I don’t know why I’m here, what’s going on, or what to do.

But if I don’t figure it out quickly, I’m not going to remain a living princess very long.

And, yeah, I awoke tied to a tree in the enemy army.

The one that just killed the king, this body’s father.---In a gritty, realistic medieval world that doesn’t pull punches, Princess Cayce struggles to adjust.

A land of terrifying magic, ever-present warfare, deeply rooted patriarchy and, well, a lot of limitations on how a princess can behave.

"I'm a guy. I don't wear dresses!" A very unique story of modern day guy who wakes up as a medieval princess. (You find this out all in chapter 1 so not a spoiler.) I found myself intrigued and laughing throughout the book. You never knew what was going to happen next. I enjoyed listening to Cayce figure out the way things worked and challenge how they believed things should be.

As everyone has their preference, it did take me a few minutes to adjust to the audio but by the end of chapter 1, I was used to the voice and enjoyed listening to the rest of the book.

I can't wait for the next book!

It had to be a dream ....

I thoroughly enjoyed this character-driven story. 📚
Mysterious yet effective worldbuilding where the mystery itself is part of the plot.
Every answer spurs more questions.
The reader doesn’t even know what genre the book is in.
And that’s part of the fun. 🎭✨
A protagonist who doesn’t know the rules, but is dead set on not playing by them. 🧨♟️
Humor that will make you laugh out loud.
Be careful reading in public places. 😂📖
I really enjoyed this book.

This is a very short novel artificially extended by the narrator slowing down their record or having a ridiculously slow record speed. It also sounds like they were recording from within a well. It's not as bad as in a well. . . perhaps a shallow well.

As for the novel itself, it's basically a comedy about how a guy would respond to the misogyny and lack of technology were they transported to Medieval France but with magic too rare to be used for anything other than war. These bits can often be good and interesting, but it is not actually progression fantasy. Also, in a world that has wizards who are force multipliers and politics that are both immediately threatening and very clearly the cause of the peril the character found themselves in at the start of the book, the character's goal as a week teenage girl is to become a warrior. Further, her reasoning seems to drift from moment to moment. For example, her reason for promoting a teenage boy to her body guard was to protect him from being executed as a deserter but later on she hopes that he can become a warrior. Ultimately, what makes this objectionable is the lack of plans and execution. The character doesn't prioritize gaining more information and instead makes many choices that are clearly antagonistic and foolish while having rather short-sighted plans like "learning to use a sword" and then insisting on learning combat from horseback the next day while having not learned the sword, not having learned to move in armor, and it is all just a mess.

Further, this was promoted as a progression fantasy and I was about 65% complete with the book when I gave up on it but up until that point there was no progression at all. She's not solving any obstacles or conflicts in the narrative either - just making more problems for herself.

I received a free copy and decided to give an honest review and generous stars as there were only 6 reviews at the time that I wrote this. My hope is that this finds it's audience because there is probably a narrow audience that would enjoy it. I'd also suggest that the author repackage it as an omnibus and end the series ASAP if it is not already complete in order to not throw good money after bad. Good luck.

Good Luck
