Publisher's summary

A new edition of the landmark, worldwide best seller on the life of the famed medical clairvoyant and founding father of the new age: Edgar Cayce.

Edgar Cayce (1877-1945) is known to millions today as the grandfather of the new age. A medical clairvoyant, psychic, and Christian mystic, Cayce provided medical, psychological, and spiritual advice to thousands of people who swore by the effectiveness of his trance-based readings.

But Cayce was not always a household name. When a young, skeptical journalist named Thomas Sugrue first met Cayce in 1927, the world had not yet heard of the "sleeping prophet". During years of unique access, Sugrue completed his landmark biography, which on its publication in 1942 brought national attention to Cayce and stands as the sole record written during the seer's lifetime.

This edition includes a new introduction by historian Mitch Horowitz. It highlights the enduring significance of Cayce's message and the role this book played in its dissemination.

A Journey in a Book

I would give 4 1/2 stars for the story only because the final chapters are tacked on and in my opinion unnecessary.

All in all, it is a beautiful biography of an ordinary man with great powers. Very insightful and inspiring.

Put together Nicely

Found this to be a very interesting read and very compelling of his true raw talent. Disliked that it ended. That it all.

Great man Edgar Cayce and super detailed.

Info was very interesting and super detailed. Tried to get through to the end and was very long. This is about the best book I have come across on Edgar Cayce.

If you're even considering this book...

Then you were meant to hear it. A rare look into the life of Cayce and his family's struggles with this most odd ability. As Christians their wonder and amazement with this strange ability discovered while he 'slept' and remembered nothing said while in trance created many questions, as skeptics came and went unsuccessful in their attempts to expose Cayce as a fraud. The journalist who met Cayce and created this book did a fantastic job from start to finish. I appreciated the chapter about philosophy and material in past life readings given by Cayce immensely.

Fascinating

I very much enjoyed this book. I think it was a good balance of Cayce’s background, his influences and struggles, and his medical treatments. It left me wanting more.

Great story of the life of a truly remarkable man !

I have read many books gleaned from Edgar Cayce's material but never read the original biography of the man. This shed an interesting perspective onto the collective narrative thereof. It was very good overall and offered great insight and context on the story of the man.

Edgar

This brought back a few additional facts about Mr Casey's life. The narrator brought forth much about the character of Mr Casey.
