Publisher's summary

The death of his wife four years earlier left Travis Bennett a shell of the man he used to be. With his dog by his side, Travis raises his three children, manages his business, and works as a ranch hand. But every day, every minute, is an aching emptiness.

Wesley Ryan has fond memories of the small Ozark town of El Dorado Springs. Seeing it as a safe place to put his failed relationships behind him, Wesley moves into his grandparents' old home and takes over the local veterinary clinic. An early morning visit from Travis and his dog stirs feelings that Wesley seeks to push away - the last thing he needs is to fall for a man with baggage and three kids as part of the package.

Life, it seems, has other plans.

A very worthwhile Read

This is so much more than a gay love story. I definitely recommend! Also,The voice actor is one of the best I've encountered.

Not for me

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I did not feel the connection AT ALL, more distracting than endearing - the lust of the relationship was realistic enough, but the love didn't come off as sincere in the slightest, seemed baseless and a bit silly especially with all the f-bombs that were dropped immediately following a supposed romantic moment. I would have preferred the characters had not been so stereo-typical, seemed a bit insulting. Narrator was good enough to listen to almost all of it. It seems a lot of people enjoyed the book, just not for me.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Haven't finished, not sure I will

What does Andrew McFerrin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Cringing at the awkwardness of the forced relationship

Was Then the Stars Fall worth the listening time?

Meh, I won't listen to twice for sure

Sweet, low angst HEA romance

Sweet, low angst HEA romance. A bit too sweet for my tastes but sincere and well written. Andrew McFerrin's narration is spot-on perfect.

Story is very good, performance is great

I'd bought this as an ebook, oh, a year ago or so and really enjoyed it, but wound up purchasing the audiobook more recently. I have to say that while the story Brandon Witt has written is very good, it's the reading performance that is spectacular. Andrew McFerrin does a tremendously good job not only with the narration (which some readers do not excel at), but manages to create and perform each character with a distinct voice.

Sweet Romance

This was my first experience with Brandon Witt (certainly not the last just finished Shattered Door) and it was a great pleasure to be lost in his phenomenal writing style. Combined with the narration of Andrew McFerrin, I entered the world of Travis and Wesley and felt as if I was a part of that world. Witt provided excellent insight into each character, regardless of status in the story. I could feel the vial, antagonistic hate permeate from the 'evil' character and I could feel and relate to the struggles of both protagonists. Such intense skill and storytelling made this a tale in which I lost myself and related to journey of the characters. Certainly would recommend and am anxious to Witt's talents again as well as those of McFerrin's.

Interesting, but very graphic language

I had not ever written a review, having not previously read any books on the gay lifestyle. It was revealed kindly, and has a most interesting story. I was not impressed with the overuse of profanity and some sexual descriptive portions. However, it has an unusual story told in an interesting fashion.

Ok but not as good as Imperfection of Swans

Narrator was good.
I was hoping for another story like The Imperfection of Swans but maybe that’s not fair.it would have been quite a feat to outdo Imperfection….

The story was pretty good. However it did not need the violence and hatred of the arsonist.
I noticed the main characters just weren’t fleshed out enough. Had a hard time visualizing them without much more description of both the physical and the personalities.
Maybe the great Imperfection book just spoiled me.

Not Just Another Romance

Would you listen to Then the Stars Fall again? Why?

Yes. I enjoyed the story. It was believable, entertaining & I was rooting for the good guys.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Although crusty old Travis was a favorite, I think the Vet was my real favorite character in the book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No extreme reactions but I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I'm not normally a romance reader - I prefer Thrillers, Murders & Mysteries - I do wander off to other things that catch my attention, though. This was a nice break from all the usual mayhem, like a visit to a small town to catch your breath after a long week in the city. And, er, well, ahem, blush, I will admit to brushing away a tear or two - especially at the wedding.

Different than the Synopsis

This book covers a completely different turn of events than the synopsis describes. The story ended up being more about a challenging and wonderful homosexuality relationship. I didn't mind this, however, other readers may be upset it's not what the synopsis seems to be about.

Love & Happiness

What a wonderful love story, romantic love, brotherly love & familial love. It covers all basis beautifully. The romantic love is between two men, but the other does a great job of showing how love is love. Focusing on genitalia when telling about love and showing love is missing the most important point. As a heterosexual woman, I find all love to be great. And, as a result, I have found a new edition to my list of favorite authors. Upon finishing this story, I immediately hunted for any other Audible stories by this author. It saddens me that there’s only one more, but it will be purchased as well.
In this story, I also liked the low-level humor, especially from the young twins. And I liked how the author dealt with the realities of sexual prejudice found in many communities, especially small ones and internalized sexual prejudice too. It’s not preachy or judgmental and not too easy. Plus, the characters are great. It’s also not a story where sex is the center, nor is the small bit of sex explicit at all. Instead, sexual intercourse is alluded to, and some touching is told about but not described. Several of the characters use the f-word to talk about the sex act as well. The cherry on top was the wonderful job the narrator did with all of the characters.
