Publisher's summary

In a world where there’s only one woman for every 12 men, a lottery is the chance for five lucky men to win the prize of a lifetime...her hand in marriage.

Shay...even her name sounds like a sigh.

Shay bringing meals to his cell a few times a week is the only bright spot in the shit show that has become Charlie’s existence after being captured by the enemy. He can’t stop thinking about her. The barest brush of fingertips as she passes him his tray through the slot in the door. How she looks up at him through her eyelashes with those gorgeous, haunting green eyes of hers.

Where did she come from? Who the hell is giving her those bruises on her face? And more importantly, how can Charlie protect her when he himself is locked up like an animal?

But then one day, Shay’s saves him. She breaks him out of prison and says she knows where Charlie’s sister is - the sister Charlie was afraid was dead. As soon as Charlie’s free, he makes a vow. He’ll protect Shay at all costs, even if it means his life.

There’s just one little problem. The township where his sister lives? Turns out they have a law that every woman must marry five men. And his. Sister. Married. Five. Guys.

Even worse? Shay’s the next up for the lottery.

Please note that this audiobook contains some dark elements and covers some sensitive topics. Any listener who feels they shouldn't venture in this apocalyptic world of sometimes harsh realities should please consider before listening.

ok

Struggled to finish, since the plot got ridiculous at times. Narrator tried but annoyed me at times

I am,not one for reverse harem however I got it from the author and found it was a decent read. Certainly spent some hours on it.

Hmmm

Not as good as the first in the series but I did like it. More excited about a book about Sophia

Stasia Black! This series keeps getting better! I really went through a wide range of emotions listening to this audiobook. Shay frustrated me so much early in the story, however she redeemed herself with her love, honesty and support of her husbands. Ry Forest, and Simona Rose were okay narrators.

Loved it!

A great sequel to Theirs to Protect! Loved hearing Charlie's story and reunion with his sister Audrey. Loved the twist in his and Shay's story as they become a part of the community of Jacob's well. Hold on to your seat. This one is a bumpy ride.

I keep hoping that these books would get better..

This book seems like it is based on the punishment of women and how Vulnerable women are to men when law and order is not around. This is a dark book and it seems like women in Chaos will run towards punishment and slavery just to live. When I personally feel that women start to kill after being abused and they are the most volatile creatures after being raped. Also I feel this book is the Internalized hatred of ones self learned from the Patriarchy that that teaches women they are all whores and that they would just lay down and die or become whores without the grace and justice of man’s law.

Meh

Interesting premise.

I found it very difficult to care about any of the main characters(with the exception of Charlie). As much as I love a good reverse harem, this story just felt wrong. Women being forced to marry multiple men is just gross. I know it’s supposed to be consensual, but the circumstances kind of make true consent seem impossible.

I also really do not care for the LFC. I’m a little over 2 hours into the story and she just seems like a dick. I understand she’s had a traumatic experience, but the way she treated Charlie in the early moments when he was trying to look out for her was rude.

I’m going to try to stick it out for a bit longer because this cost me a credit and I wasn’t able to return it.

The narration also leaves much to be desired. There is nothing I find more frustrating than listening to a narrator who sounds like they’re doing a cold reading. I will give props for their attempts to differentiate their character voices. Unfortunately, neither narrator did a good job.

I hope this “grows” on me, but I don’t think I’m going to make it through.
