Publisher's Summary

From the best-selling parenting experts behind The Whole-Brain Child comes a highly successful plan for helping your child become more independent and resilient.

Children can often act out or shut down when faced with a setback or a tricky issue like homework, food or screen time. This is what acclaimed parenting experts Dr Siegel and Dr Bryson call the 'No Brain' response. But you can help your child develop the ability to cope, solve their own problems and thrive by nurturing their 'Yes Brain'.

Drawing on their successful work with thousands of parents and children from all backgrounds, Dr Siegel and Dr Bryson provide the advice, tools and activities to help parents with children of all ages.

This is what the 'Yes Brain' approach looks like in action:

  • A five-year-old boy thinks about his first day at school and says, 'I'm nervous, but I'll give it a try.'
  • An eight-year-old girl says, 'I'd like to join the football team, even though none of my friends like football.'
  • A 14 year-old boy looks at a test he's earned a D- for and says, 'That's not the mark I wanted, but it's not the end of the world. I'll ask the teacher how I can improve.'

Such a great parenting book

As a therapist, I'm always cautious when reading parenting books because I don't think there is one method that works for all. However, this book is without fault as it really takes differentiation into account and teaches you about the neuro-biology behind the parenting skills it teaches. It has loads of info on the research and I love the fact that it comes with a downloadable PDF.

Well worth the read.

Wisdom for parents - simple, clear & full of heart

Where does The Yes Brain Child rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

All Dan Siegel's books are excellent.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The three zones and how to help our children develop resilience and empathy are really helpful.

What about Daniel J Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson ’s performance did you like?

Dan's compassion and humanity shine through. It's not easy to recognize what's going on and respond appropriately to our children in every moment of every day; Dan & Tina acknowledge this and provide positive encouragement.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Take a breath; building resilience & relationship

Any additional comments?

Kudos to Dan Siegel - I've been following his work for a few years now. Parenting is challenging and rewarding, it's also sometimes bewildering ..... Dan's work has been an invaluable part of my journey.

The help I needed

This book is very helpful and I recommend it to anyone with an open mind and a willingness to have a better relationship with their children. It is well researched, well written, clear, informative. I also appreciated and loved the fact that it was the authors reading the book - it made it so much more authentic and powerful. They read with understanding of what they want to say, just brilliant. Really good work. Especially that as a parent you do feel that the authors are really there with you - they are not only psychologists, but they have experience all of the pains and joys of parenting themselves. They are forgiving, encouraging, stimulating.
One of the best books.
Also, the final chapter on the definition of succes in the world these days is so touching and moving that it may make your eyes wet.
Now listening to the 'No drama discipline' by the same authors and it promises to be even better.

A little brief. Many references to other works.

Some good concepts here, but I was hoping for a little more substance. I feel like some of this would be better served as being a segment in a larger book, perhaps also combining other referenced works.

Insightful and educational - will refer to this book often

I really like how insightful this book is. I like that, although they go into some detail to explain the science behind the inner workings of a child’s brain, it’s not difficult to understand or overly science-y. I started implementing green zone strategies also immediately and
