Strange but True

This is an interesting collection of "true mysteries" as published in Fate magazine. I am grateful that someone is preserving stories such as these in a collection for modern readers. I can only imagine how it would have been to have read these when they were first published in "Fate"! It is interesting to me to be able to read these classic tales from a bygone era.

Some of the stories were very enjoyable, especially those about ghosts, werewolves, and folk tales of different regions of the world. Others were more dry and clinical in describing phenomenon like ESP, crystal ball readings, hypnotism and séances.

All in all, an entertaining book if you are interested in strange occurrences and what might be all around us in the world. At least, it gives the reader something to think about!

The narrator does a good job and keeps the listener's interest, even during the drier of the tales. I was given the opportunity to listen to this book by the publisher and chose to review it.

Embracing the unexplainable

In the realm of the paranormal, the mysterious and the unexplained, one publication has long stood as a beacon for those who yearn for answers beyond the ordinary. FATE Magazine, with its rich history spanning over 70 years, has been a treasure trove of inexplicable phenomena, a steadfast companion for seekers of the unknown. The enchantment of FATE has been thoughtfully curated in the audiobook "The World's Strangest True Mysteries," narrated by the talented Janelle Bigham. This captivating collection compiles the most enthralling stories from FATE's archives, painting an otherworldly portrait of events that challenge the very fabric of reality.

Before I delve into the fascinating tapestry of stories within this audiobook, let me establish my deep connection with FATE Magazine. I had the privilege of holding a subscription to this venerable publication for nearly a decade. It was a ritual I cherished, eagerly awaiting each issue's arrival to embark on a journey into the unknown. FATE was more than just a magazine; it was a doorway into a world where the inexplicable and the extraordinary coexisted with our everyday reality.

What always impressed me about FATE was its commitment to presenting a wide spectrum of paranormal phenomena in a scientific and analytical manner. It was not just a platform for fanciful tales; it approached subjects like psychic phenomena with a level of intellectual rigor that set it apart from the tin-foil-hat narratives that some other publications might peddle. It was a beacon of reason in a realm often shrouded in sensationalism.

"The World's Strangest True Mysteries" begins by offering a tantalizing glimpse into the rich history of FATE Magazine. Long before the era of AMC's "The Walking Dead," SyFy's "Paranormal Witness," or late-night radio's "Coast to Coast AM," FATE was there, introducing audiences to the world's strangest, most inexplicable events. The magazine was a trailblazer, a pioneer that kept the flames of curiosity burning when the internet was yet to be conceived, and self-proclaimed experts weren't saturating the field of paranormal investigation. In this regard, FATE's enduring legacy as a trustworthy source of paranormal exploration is undeniable.

As I embarked on this audiobook journey, I was greeted with a wide array of paranormal subjects, each more intriguing than the last. The stories in this collection delve into the realms of prophetic dreams, ghostly encounters, miraculous spiritual healings, enigmatic UFO sightings, astounding psychic powers, ancient witchcraft, eerie hauntings, mischievous poltergeists, mystifying séances, the enigma of firewalking, celestial visitations by angels, the shadow of curses, and the mind-bending concept of astral travel.

What sets these accounts apart is their grounding in reality. These are not mere works of fiction; these are events that happened to real people, people who were as ordinary as you and me, until they found themselves drawn into the extraordinary world of the paranormal. Each tale is a testament to the boundless mysteries of our universe, offering glimpses into phenomena that science often struggles to comprehend.

In today's age of instant information, it's easy to forget the roots of modern paranormal fascination. "The World's Strangest True Mysteries" harks back to a time when curious minds were captivated by stories published in the pages of FATE. For me, this audiobook was an enthralling throwback, reminiscent of my own experiences as a devoted FATE Magazine reader.

The stories within this collection are as diverse as they are engrossing. Some, like the tales of ghosts and werewolves, transport the listener to the heart of eerie and enigmatic occurrences. Folk tales from different regions of the world add a global perspective, making it clear that the inexplicable knows no cultural bounds. On the other hand, some narratives adopt a more clinical and scientific approach in explaining phenomena such as ESP, crystal ball readings, hypnotism, and séances. This diversity keeps the listening experience fresh and thought-provoking.

One of the standout stories in this collection involves two individuals using a Ouija board to communicate with the Angel Raphael. It's a narrative that defies easy explanation, and it leads the listener to explore further. This is the mark of a well-crafted story, and it's evident that the editors of FATE chose their content with care.

Janelle Bigham's narration brings these extraordinary tales to life, infusing each story with a sense of wonder and intrigue. Her skillful delivery keeps the listener's interest piqued, making it easy to immerse oneself in the mystique of the paranormal.

"The World's Strangest True Mysteries" is a captivating audiobook that captures the essence of FATE Magazine's enduring legacy. It offers a gateway to the inexplicable, a window into the supernatural, and a journey into the world's most mystifying phenomena. If you, like me, are a believer in higher powers and the limitless potential of the unexplored, this collection will resonate with you.

My journey through this audiobook was a delightful reminder of the wonders that the world of the paranormal has to offer. I commend the editors of FATE Magazine for preserving these extraordinary stories for modern readers. This collection not only rekindled my fascination with the paranormal but also gave me a newfound appreciation for the inquisitive minds of a bygone era.

"The World's Strangest True Mysteries" doesn't provide all the answers, but it certainly offers a wealth of intriguing questions. It encourages us to embrace the extraordinary and consider the possibilities that exist beyond the boundaries of conventional understanding. I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook and eagerly anticipate delving into the other volumes in this series. If you're ready to take a plunge into the enigmatic world of the paranormal, this audiobook is your ticket to an enthralling journey.

interesting

I enjoyed listening to this collection of miracles, unexplained phenomenon, and coincidences. Maybe being open minded and a believer in higher powers and more than meets the eye helped me to see the possibilities. I entreat others to take the plunge. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a good job bringing it to life.

Decent stories, just not for me.

Couldn't finish this book.
The stories were okay as a work of fiction. Unfortunately, they were all entirely anecdotal or pseudoscientific theories that I couldn't take seriously as 'true mysteries'. Another type of listener would probably love it.

The narration was fine except for all the words read without contractions that made it sound robotic and was a bit distracting.
