Publisher's summary

When was the last time someone around you brought up World War Two?

It’s a pretty popular war. Maybe you heard about it yesterday. Maybe last month. But it was probably recent. And when it came up, did you wish that you could be the one to casually drop a fact that would have everyone in the room going, “Wow, I never knew that!”

With this audiobook, you can be that person.

You can listen to it just a few minutes a day.

Chapters are bite-sized and easy-to-read, meant for normal people instead of war historians!

Each chapter ends with a bonus helping of trivia and some quick questions to test your knowledge.

You’ll zoom through this book and be hungry for more.

Get ready to impress your friends with your knowledge–not just of the main events of World War Two, but of all the gritty details and weird true facts. By the time you finish this book, you’ll have a fact for every occasion, from the first moment someone thought about having a Second World War, to the most recent blockbuster movies about it.

So get ready to meet characters from Adolf Hitler, rejected art student, to Jack Churchill, the broadsword-swinging male model. Find out why World War Two started in the first place, and why it’s never a good idea to invade Russia in winter. Learn why the United States was going to stay out of the war, how Canadians stole airplanes for the British, and what an orange soft drink has to do with the Nazis.

Some of the things you’re going to learn are sad. Some are scary. Some are sexy. And some are downright strange! It’s everything your history teacher never got around to telling you.

Little known facts about the biggest war

This is a very fun series, and I have worked backwards from book three down to this one. It really doesn't matter the order in which you read them either. The book discusses some better known individuals, and some you have never heard of, the same goes for battles. There will be things that you never knew happened in some of the most well known ones, and things that you never heard of at all (unless you literally lived to research this war).

The really good stuff: Each chapter is short, although very informative. It packs in a lot of info, but does not overwhelm you or make it feel like a teaching moment. No, this is more like information taught just for fun. And you will enjoy it. Additionally, the best part is the mini quiz at the end of each chapter, that is there just to see if you were really listening. So, you can see iif you learned anything.

If you enjoy learning about WWII then you will love this book. It really brings that era alive.

Newman is an excellent narrator, and he actually teaches without sounding like it. He makes the work fun, keeps it interesting, and you will enjoy every second listening to him. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

Great Introduction to WW2

I am a big fan of the World War I Trivia Book and the World War II Trivia Book maintains the prior volume’s high standards. I’ve been reading about World War II for decades and I can’t think of a better way to introduce someone to the complicated mess that spiraled into the most destructive war in human history. The authors feed you the narrative like a seven-course meal, breaking it up in easy to follow themes and then further dividing into bite-sized sections that make digestion easy and enjoyable.

I already knew the basic narrative so I focused most strongly on the many vignettes—such morsels as the Battle of Stalingrad or examples of sacrifices made on the home front. The most moving sections had to do with the Holocaust—especially their discussions of Anne Frank.

If you’re looking for a quick introduction to World War II, this Trivia Book is a wonderful place to start. I’m going to continue with their history of Vietnam.

Your New Go To WWII Fact Book!

This was a perfect book to get information on the topic of World War 2 when looking for a bit of a refresher and some new interesting facts. It walks you through the entire war in chronological order and gives you the main points with a lot of extra colorful details that are not widely known. It was kept short and to the point so it is an easy and highly interesting listen. I definitely recommend this book and I'll definitely be looking into getting a print copy as well.

Chock Full of Information Great Presentation

As I have gotten older, history has become more important to me. I absolutely love these books by Bill O'Neill. They are oozing with information, facts, and trivia. This book is no exception.

The setup for retention is genius. The listener is treated to a chapter's worth of information and then there is a pause, giving the listener a chance to reflect on what he just heard.

I think that I have mentioned this before, in other reviews of Bill O'Neill's books, but it is worth mentioning again. This would be perfect material for (but not limited to) a 5th grade classroom. Imagine a student reading a section and then the teacher calling on students to point out what they have just heard.

The material is timely and interesting to almost anyone, in my opinion.

Derek Newman is an engaging and pleasant narrator. It almost feels like you are having a conversation with him, when at the end of each chapter he asks questions about what you just heard or invites you to share your thoughts. Fantastic!

I intend to listen to each and every Bill O'Neill trivia book with this format. They are marvelous!

Thank you for taking the time to read my review. *I was provided the unique opportunity to receive an advance copy of this book to listen to in exchange for my unbiased review.

Great presentation of little know facts about WW2

This is my second book by Bill O’Neill and he continues to excel as an author. I first started with his 80’s trivia because I thought it would be a great “Blast from the Past”. I was surprised by how much info I picked up from it. I think it is a great way to learn facts that you may not have already know. Best to listen to on a long drive so you can really focus on the facts. Love the format of these books. The quizzes are a great feature. Very enjoyable listen. 5 stars.

Interesting facts, easy listen

Somewhat strange presentation (Really, question and answer at end of chapters?) of interesting topics. Short enough to listen to in one afternoon.

Very well narrated even if a little tendansy to be over dramatic.

Interesting and informative

This audiobook is full of interesting figures, events, and the inertias of peoples and politics that led to World War II. The events during the war and some little-known events that led to it's close are covered.

I am not what one might call a history buff, but I enjoyed listening to this book and I appreciate the author for presenting the information in such a way that kept me entertained and glad to have spent the time in listening to it.

Interesting!

Note: I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

WWII history has always fascinated me. While there was a lot of things in this book that I already knew, I learned a few new interesting bits of trivia. The narrator did a solid job of delivering the information in an engaging way.

Recommended for anyone with an interest in history - especially WWII history.
