A completely addictive and unputdownable psychological thriller with a nail-biting twist

‘Hi,’ she says, ‘I’m your new neighbour.’ Her smile is bright but her shoulders are tense as she stands on the leafy green Edinburgh street. She seems friendly. But soon I’ll discover her dangerous secret…

On the first day I meet my new neighbour, we share a glass of wine and talk into the night. We swap numbers and I vow to get to know her better. But as I get closer to her, I discover something about her past that changes everything. She isn’t who I thought she was.

Then when I step into her home, my jaw drops. Everything in here is identical to my own flat – every cushion, every picture on the wall.

Except for the knife, covered in blood. My heart pounds in my chest. What has she done? What is she capable of?

I should never have come here. I should never have got close to her. I need to run.

But then I hear a creak outside the door. And I realise, it may be too late…

An absolutely gripping psychological thriller from multi-million-copy, bestselling author JD Kirk. For anyone who loves Freida McFadden, John Marrs and T.M. Logan.

As an ardent fan of JD Kirk, I was excited to read this (listen to) new book even though I knew it was not going to be like my other DCI Logan, Hoon and Filson favorites. Nonetheless, I was disappointed with the storyline. It was contrived and just lacked any plausibility. The narrator was excellent and there are lots of twists, turns and red herrings to keep you going, but overall, the story left me dissatisfied and hoping that a new book either continuing the DCI Logan series OR a new series with characters and stories more like Kirk's earlier novels--with at least a likable character or two and some level of humor to lighten the predictable violence and gore. The dialogue of the DCI Logan series is so clever and engaging, that the characters seem more realistic than those in many murder mysteries. If you're a fan of JD Kirk, you may like this book anyway, but don't be surprised that it is not on a par with the aforementioned series.

Well written and well paced but not the best this author has produced. JD Kirk fans have been spoiled by his series DCI Jack Logan and subsequent spin-off series Hoon and Filson. Rich characters and perfect placement of humor that cut the tension in the riveting mysteries. Each series has been a joy ride. Great plot line in this book with dots of humor, but unfortunately the humorous bits do not land well and seem mis-matched with the characters. Still a very entertaining story with excellent narration. Looking forward to the next Filson, Hoon or Logan.

I’ve listened to all of JD Kirk’s books and have mostly enjoyed them all. This is by far and away the best book he’s written yet.

My favorite yet

Had high hopes for this one, the pacing to begin with was good. But the story seemed to have dragged near the end, and fizzled out. After having listened to all his other books, feels like a let down for me.
