Publisher's summary

Two centuries after the Salem witch trials, there’s still one witch left in Massachusetts. But she doesn’t even know it.

Take this as a warning: if you are not able or willing to control yourself, it will not only be you who suffers the consequences, but those around you, as well.

New Oldbury, 1821

In the wake of a scandal, the Montrose family and their three daughters - Catherine, Lydia and Emeline - flee Boston for their new country home, Willow Hall.

The estate seems sleepy and idyllic. But a subtle menace creeps into the atmosphere, remnants of a dark history that call to Lydia, and to the youngest, Emeline.

All three daughters will be irrevocably changed by what follows, but none more than Lydia, who must draw on a power she never knew she possessed if she wants to protect those she loves. For Willow Hall’s secrets will rise, in the end....

Good idea took too long

This book would have been interesting if it wasn’t so drawn out and slow. The plot was great and I would have loved this book if it weren’t for the dragging & nagging. I’m still curious to try another Hester Fox book to see if she gets better at getting to the point

really good

Really well done Gothic romance. The characters were well developed and their actions made sense considering their insecurities, time period, and relationships to each other. There was a careful slow build up with gentle suspense throughout. This was one that kept me up late wanting to know what was going to happen next.

wonderful!

One of the best witch/ ghostly/love stories I've read in ages! although I get a little frustrated with the heroine on occasion for her stupidity. no matter, I still loved it.

Simply Captivating

After chapter one, I was hooked. I love the story and the characters. This might be my new favorite author.

Character

I would change the main character slightly. I feel that even at the end she still doesn't have a strong voice. Very little confidence in herself.

The Witch of Willow Hall

Loved it? Yes! I did. I purchased this to read for Halloween but got sidetracked (not book's fault) and finished during holidays. Once time allowed and I had ample time to read, I WAS HOOKED, hanging on every word. The narration is phenomenal and very expressive. Each character was portrayed by the narrator and everyone portrayed was believable, especially when the two sisters begin to quarrel. It's downright chilling. I'd describe this book as historical fiction, historical mystery, historical romance, but not the gushy, lovey-dovey kind, and part historical paranormal. There's enough going on to satisfy an assortment of reading fans. A wealthy Bostonian family is forced to leave their city comforts behind when hideous rumors begin to spread. Mother & Father relocate their three daughters to a mysterious country home. The eldest, beautiful daughter is at the forefront of the rumors that have turned this distinguished family into social pariahs. The middle sister, Lydia, is bookish and quaint. Do not underestimate her. She's inherited unique talents that once had a family member hanged for witchcraft. The youngest child, Emmaline, dreams of mermaids and imaginary friends. Soon, Willow Hall will be filled with sadness, regrets, secrets, and lies so unimaginable that lives become threatened. Only one sister has the strength to confront the spirits that lurk the grounds and halls of Willow Hall. Is she willing to sacrifice everything to protect the person who least deserves it? I gasped out loud at some of the unexpected revelations. What?! This book had a fantastic plot and felt like I was reading one of those good old fashioned books of long ago. Excellent!
