Publisher's summary

The teachings of the Native Americans provide a connection with the land, the environment, and the simple beauties of life. This collection of writings from revered Native Americans offers timeless, meaningful lessons on living and learning.

Taken from writings, orations, and recorded observations of life, this audiobook selects the best of Native American wisdom and distills it to its essence in short, digestible quotes - perhaps even more timely now than when they were first written. In addition to the short passages, this edition includes the complete "Soul of an Indian", as well as other writings by Ohiyesa (Charles Alexander Eastman), one of the great interpreters of American Indian thought, and three great speeches by Chiefs Joseph, Seattle, and Red Jacket.

True insightful sacred wisdom to last a lifetime..

Being of Native American descent myself, I can honestly say, of all the various literature and philosophical texts I have read over the years (47 to be precise), this profound work has emotionally impacted my sense of self, country, and cultural identity the most. It is by far one of the best insightful text I have read / listened to to-date, which sheds light on real Native American philosophy as well as the Colonial and pre-modern American mindset.

I highly recommend giving this title a listen. The narration is great; it's short, engaging, and the wisdom you'll gain from listening will truly enrich your life forever...

history to remember

We do not hear enough about the indigenous people and the effect of European interaction. History is not always pretty, it involves people capable of making mistakes. This should not be reason to shy away from it, just the opposite. We should face it head on, honestly view the mistakes of our ancestors so we do not repeat them

Almost hypnotic

The narrator was perfectly chosen for this. A joy to listen to. This book is a collection of speeches given by various American Indians. The content was sometimes sad, sometimes happy, but it always has a poetry and rhythm to it that is almost hypnotic. If you’re a student of American Indian history and culture, this is a must

Great history lesson

This was a significant review of American history, specifically Native American history that should be taught in every high school history course. Good research and presentation..

Extremely moving

Thank you for providing this wisdom I so desperately lacked in my upbringing. The stories and accounts in this book is a fantastic introduction to learning more about the Native Americans.

Worth the time

a great read. Really eye opening to the heartbreak the Native Americans endured, but handled themselves with grace.
