Publisher's Summary

When a relationship ends, the anguish and disappointment can be devastating. A broken heart is genuinely traumatic. Typical recommendations to keep busy, move on, repair your hidden flaws, and then forget about it may not be helpful. In this reading of her book, Susan Piver reveals that heartbreak actually creates an opportunity for genuine emotional and spiritual transformation, enabling you to emerge on the other side stronger, softer, and capable of loving with renewed confidence.

In the years following her own experience, relationship writer Susan Piver searched the world’s wisdom traditions and discovered that heartbreak can be an uncompromising teacher of authenticity, power, and even joy. She shares that wisdom here, with instantaneously recognizable anecdotes, insights, on-the-spot practices, exercises, meditations, and down-to-earth advice that make The Wisdom of a Broken Heart a steadying prescription of solace and encouragement, wisdom and humor during the hardest time of your life. Like an infinitely patient, trusted friend, Piver tells you in a thousand different ways the most important thing to remember and the easiest to forget: “You’re going to be okay.”

Nothing Better for Healing

One of the most helpful reads of my entire life. So heartful, grounded, practical and unaffected. There's nothing preachy or didactic about this book - just a caring sharing of the shape and qualities of the journey of heartbreak. She's a wise one.

Lost and found

I didn’t realize how lost I let myself be trying to find acceptance and love. Always chasing wants and needs. I smothered a good man because I couldn’t trust him. I made demands that at the time were so important to me, after this book I realized what I was doing. I sat with myself I had a dinner party with my demons, I let the fires burn. I feel confident again ,proud of the skin I’m in. And miraculously when I woke up this morning to my surprise there he was ..that good man sleeping like a baby right next to me. I layed there and took it in with every breath. Something new, Self love acceptance and strength. I just shared this book with my best friend who is also dealing with some things, I hope it helps her too.

spirituality challenging

told me what I wanted and didn't want to hear. Witty, uplifting, and healing. My dear therapist recommended this book to me. Sometimes it triggered me, but I'm glad i overcame my pain to finish this book.

Wonderful Lessons

This book brings the heartbreak back to you! You will not find a hint of advice on “how to get them back” but rather you’ll find out how to get the most enlightenment out of a painful situation. I’ve used this as a tool through two painful breakups. The first, in 2015, I had the actual book. I gave it away thinking I’d learned all the lessons. The second heartbreak, which occurred recently, I was gifted with new insights and tools to accept the breakup. My only complaint is that when I emailed for the supplemental PDF I did not receive an email back.

Helpful content, soothing performance

I just listened to this, right after (a few days) a heartbreak. I finished it in 3 days and it’s helped me sort through a lot of feelings, and I definitely will revisit it to check on my own progress in a few weeks. Susan’s voice is so soothing, she’s very relatable and holds no judgement. It’s a helpful book to get you in tune with yourself, remind yourself that you’re worthy of love, and to prepare you for the journey of recovery after a heartbreak

A book full of sympathy for a broken heart

My heart was broken into million pieces and thought no one in the world can understand me. I was so frustrated and hopeless. I decided to try some book that might help. As soon as the audible started I shocked. I thought it is me talking. I couldn't believe there are other people with the exact feeling. I first impressed by the sympathy of the author. It was very important to me at that stage to find someone can only understand my pain. If you are heart broken you will hear out yourself through this book. The solutions recommended at this book are not something you already not know but it helps you to think about that at the time you couldn't think clearly and even don t know yourself anymore. It is a very difficult journey and you are the only one can help you. So read this book just to find out where you are stand in your life then you can find your way.

Wonderful, healing, inspiring

I'm going through a breakup now, and this book has been inmensely helpful! I can't thank enough Susan Piver for such a combination of compassion, authenticity and wisdom, mixed wifth her being super funny at times. I cried at some points through the book because I felt my pain was seen. I laughed loudly at her jokes, too. The meditation practices she teaches are pure gold and some of the exercises are very powerful. Plus, her story of taking vows and getting married is very beautiful and inspiring (and I really appreciated her insight that sometimes you love a person, but don't love your lofe with them). If you wan to heal your heart and expand your love, get this book. But don't expect some easy fix, because healing comes from feeling yourself completely... and that means opening up to your pain. But as she sais: "if you accept pain it cannot hurt you". Thanks Susan for guiding us through this turbulent times and help us thrive and grow in love.

Truly enlightening

Good thing I stumbled on this book. Very serendipitous. I had been broken-hearted many times before so thought I knew how to handle such situations by now. Listening to this book, though, allowed me to gain more insights that put my ideas into perspective. As a Zen student, I really like the emphasis on meditation and how it serves to inspire one to just sit down, focus on the breath and to see everything with clarity and loving-kindness. I love it!
