Publisher's summary

De Lint's first adult fantasy novel in eight years weaves a rich tapestry of story with classic CdL elegance.

Young Thomas Corn Eyes sees into the otherworld, but all he wants to do is get off the rez. Steve Cole escaped from his rock star life to disappear into the desert and mountains. Fifteen-year-old barrio kid Sadie Higgins has been discarded once too often. Blogger Leah Hardin needs to leave Newford, come to terms with the loss of her best friend, and actually engage with her life. When these lives collide in the Hierro Maderas Mountains, they must struggle to escape their messy pasts and find a way to carve a future for themselves. They don't just have to learn how to survive. They have to learn how to fly.

ExcelMasterful story and performance - authentic & highly entertaining

I should start by saying that I lived for 20 plus years in Native villages in Alaska. I also spent time on Reservations in the lower 48 and have personally known several Native American shaman, some of them medicine women. So this book The wind in his Heart was a great and very pleasurable story. Not many people who are non-native can write in such an authentic voice in ways that connect so well with Native culture. There is a distinctive thread of Native style humor that runs through the entire storyline. The plot and setting is well crafted and the characters seem real...a special talent this author seems to have mastered early in his writing career. The two mains characters are a white guy and a young Native guy...most of the other characters are Native. I loved the story and the narrator was a perfect fit for this highly entertaining fantasy!

An Enjoyable Yarn. Compelling Characters.

de Lint is a master. The characters have depth. The story's atmosphere is rich and descriptive and obviously well-informed through either personal experience or research of some of the nuances of multicultural life in the desert Southwest. Didn't want the story to end.

Magic and wonder on the Painted Land

The narrator was fabulous; giving different vocal textures to each character. The story was full of twists and turns, magic and wonder, and thought provoking experiences. A must read for Charles de Lint fans.

No regrets

I usually listen to shorter books, but I have no regrets for the hours spent here. Many stories with multiple threads can lead to confusion, but de Lint wove them together with great clarity. I felt the personalities could have been mere stereotypes, but he fleshed them out as individuals. I am just wondering if there has been any complaint against de Lint of cultural appropriation.

Desert fantasy from the master of urban fantasy

Another wonderful trip with De Lint. Familiar, but new. I love De Lint's books and this was no exception. I'm not a fan of the desert, but this book makes it more appealing than I thought possible. It's fun to go to an entirely diff r entry place in this book, but it is also comfortably familiar. I'm happy I listened!

Heartwarming and Kind

The Wind in His Heart is a beautifully written story full of gentle wisdom and friendship. It is the first book I have read by Charles de Lint and makes me want to explore what else he has written. Tom Stechschulte does a great job as narrator, capturing the essence of each character.

Finally a new de Lint!! Wonderful! I

I have been reading Charles de Lint for more than 30 years. I recommend him to everyone. The lessons are woven deep into the thread of the stories. Hearing them instead of reading lets my eyes wander and look for the magic. A great story teller.

My mind's inner vacation

As always Charles De Lint creates characters that are incredibly full and rich. His ability to paint the picture of his story with words drew me in and left me wanting more.
