One gun + two turkeys + three Morgan sisters = One helluva Jeep ride!

It's Thanksgiving Day in Jackrabbit Junction and the feathers are flying before the food even hits the table.

Expensive @ 1 Credit, but still worth it!!!!

The Free "Deadwood" Series hooked me on Ann Charles. Lisa Larsen's voice became a fixture in my daily life. There's no way I couldn't check out the Jackrabbit Junction Series. By the thing I reached this very short holiday extra, that I thought should be Free because of its brevity, I purchased it anyway, knowing that I simply could NOT miss a single moment of life in Jackrabbit Junction, Arizona!

Not only did Ann Charles NOT disappoint, she made me laugh and snort more than every other book combined thus far! Without the heavy cloud of long-range plot planning, Charles simply lets her hair down and cuts loose with every bit of the same characteristic fun and humorous angst of miscommunication and relationships that is true to form for every character in what can only be reminiscient of perhaps a Chevy Chase "National Lampoon's Vacation", circa 1983... except Jackrabbit Junction is no rip-off of anything else, but rather its own unique story that has one laughing, snorting, snickering and cringing at the antics and actions of its residents and The Infamous Morgan Sisters.

Although you COULD skip this intermediary short story, I do NOT recommend doing so!

This part of the saga is a pertinent part of the saga that is too funny, and in my opinion too important, to not listen to or read. Yes, you'll soldier on through the next book, thanks to Charles' patented interwoven reviews of past events (which are neither boring nor distracting) by the characters (just as you and I might recap events in our minds), BUT if you skip this book, then you'll miss some of the most hilarious events, which all contribute to the development of both the characters sans the storyline itself.

Fun read with quirky characters

I enjoyed reading, actually listening to on Audio.com, this book in the series. I do wish however, that there would be a way of informing us which book was next in the short story series or if this story was to be picked up in the next full length book, and letting us know which one that is.
I have become addicted, and now have made my wife be an addict, to Ann Charles Deadwood series. My addiction goes waaaaaaay deeper as I have her, Deadwood series all the way through book 11, both Dig Site books, several Jackrabbit Junction books, both FeralLy Funny Freakshow books, and several of her shortstoies/novellas.
The ONLY two series I haven't had a chance to start yet are her A Long Way From Ordinary and the Deadwood Undertaker. Simply because I want to finish the Jackrabbit Junction series and the last couple of books in the Deadwood series FIRST.
I TRULY enjoy the short stories & novellas as a fast, fun time between the long stories.
I GREATLY appreciated her autographed books and little extras I received from her bookstore, I have the books to my wife as part of our Anniversary.
Hope this VERY LOOOOOONG review gets someone else addicted to Ann's writing, as well as her Audio books.
Thank you again, for another charming, fast, and fun listen.
Sincerely,
Bill O'Leary :)

Clare, Ronnie, and Kate In Jeep--Too Much Turkey

It was fun being back with Clare and her sisters but there was just too much snarky business and why the turkey everywhere. It wasn't one of my favorite books by this wonderful author so I'm hoping for a full size novel soon. Chester was his usual funny self but the other characters seemed to be more out of sorts than usual. They spent the whole story in a jeep with a wild turkey??? Grady the sheriff was huffy and overly macho. It just wasn't my favorite. I'll be back for the next novel. I like Ann Charles. I listened on audible so that made it better than it would have been in text I think.

Almost An Evanovich

I love Ann Charles' first Jack Rabbit Junction books. In this book, the turkey scene is hilarious, but the storyline loses its way after they arrive home. The senior center food is imaginative, but it seems Miss Charles is confused about the difference in a senior center and a nursing home. This leaves the reader confused about those employees preparing and cleaning up afterward versus seniors preparing food for a pot luck Thanksgiving dinner. In the latter instance, they would most certainly miss the food and the containers.

I find this book not up to the level I've come to expect from Ann Charles. The idea for the storyline is good, but the writing is not tight enough. There are some details (strings) left dangling. It seems she just drifts off to sleep, mumbling a semblance of an ending until quite unexpectedly, the reader hears a snore.

A fun and quick read for the thanksgiving holiday

With little to no options for a fun thanksgiving read, this quick jaunt fits the bill for an entertaining thanksgiving read. The zany characters do a great job of illustrating how all of us have "interesting" family dynamics that make us crazy sometimes...but also draw us together in love. The book has several good laugh out loud moments. Lisa Larsen does a fabulous job of voicing so many unique characters and bringing them to life. A warm and silly read.
