The series keeps getting better

The books are recommended for young teen readers, but it appeals to older readers with a penchant for science fiction, supernatural and fiction in general. The book reveals another dimension to the adventure that the three teens and their canine began in the 2 previous books. The complexity of the plot improves on the earlier books, adding a level of maturity to the characters , who must overcome more powerful enemies. The tragic ending could sets the mood for the fourth book, that promises a show down that has been in the making for 800 years.

Pleasantly Conflicted

I am very pleased to have experienced this side of Mr. Baldacci's writing. I have enjoyed many of his past novels and it was a pleasant surprise to enjoy the fantasy of the Vega Jane and Delf adventures. My conflict is that I totally enjoyed the series and I hate the fact that I have to wait and hope that there will soon be another book in the series.
In the meantime, I will say that Mr. Baldacci has done a great job of putting his legal mind and thriller writing skills into a fanciful adventure in another world or dimension of unique characters and creatures.
Although I would say that this series is more than appropriate for younger readers it is just as an ;enjoyable series for older reads such as myself. l usually enjoy books of murder, action and intrigue. Books like "Saving Faith", "Absolute Power", and "The Camel Club" are my cup of tea, but I would put the Vega Jane series on the bookshelf right next to those books because this series is a lite version of these kinds of books and I thoroughly enjoyed the series.

The bad guys get worse

vega does wonderful magic yet there are too many of the wicked to fight by herself. She needs an army. I was impressed by her solutions.

I don't like sad endings.

I don't like sad endings. 15 words are unnecessary. This book is a lot like the others, it just ends on a down note. I don't appreciate that right now as I already begin in a down place.

Great Series

I didn't think he would be able to keep this series going, but I now realize I shouldn't doubt David. Just downloaded the latest and I am looking forward to it.

Width of the World

The Vega Jane Series is written by David Baldacci. If you're looking for the author of Absolute Power, or The Camel Club, or King & Maxwell Series, this is the same guy. But wait! This series is NOT that genre. This is clearly a young adult SciFi series, in the same vein as J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter Series. It is magical, mystical, and coming of age. The story is NOT directed at the adult reader, rather tweens ... or maybe adults that are tweens at heart.

Plot: Vega Jane is 15 years old at the beginning of book one, and just over 18 at the end of book four. She is captive in a world of slavery, and her town is mysteriously circled by a world of nasties - like monsters, gods, goddesses, etc. Vega journeys through this world in a quest for truth about her life, town, culture, heritage. Who made this barrier, what is this unknown world, why is it there, why is it taboo? All fodder that traverses the pages of this series and adventures abound. There are even wands, spells, good guys, and bad guys.

All books are narrated by Fiona Hardingham except the first which is narrated by Nicola Barber. They are basically indistinguishable - no issues with narration. Although the writing takes time to get used to, lots of over-the-pond vernacular - like snog (kiss),  git (idiot), nutter (crazy), bloody (damned), wonky (stupid), etc. The narrators are British. The fact that this is completely out-of-the-box for David Baldacci will be at the back of your mind throughout the books.

The series consists of four novels. The Finisher - 15 hours of listening, The Keeper - 12, The Width of the World - 10.5, and The Stars Below - 12. Get the most from the stories by reading from the beginning as references will be confusing.

An excellent choice for young adults - but it will have eyes rolling for many adults. Like all Baldacci books, there is no offensive language nor explicit sex, a squeaky clean read. Feel free to give to young tweens as gifts.

book 3

Love this series, the final book, book 4 will come out in February 2019 I am excited to see what happens. I just hope Vega Jane and Delf now will kill the Maladons on sight, none of this "I can't kill, unless I'm in peril danger or one of my loved ones" You don't go to war to hurt your enemy, you go to kill them. I hope now Vega Jane sees this.
