Publisher's summary

Weak. Useless. Traitor.

These are the words that continuously plague the mortal Amon. His wish to protect his loved ones is answered when he finds a hidden gravesite with artifacts belonging to a powerful cultivator. Confronted by the area's guardian, Amon begs the illusive woman for her guidance.

With their agreement set in place, he's thrown into an age-old conflict - one that dances between the past and present, while fiercely altering the future. Time and time again, he's challenged by his dark past, forcing Amon to hurt those closest to him.

Soon, the young cultivator comes to realize that fate makes everyone face the consequences of their choices - even those made in another lifetime.

Overall a very good read!

I would recommend this to anyone who likes cultivation novels. It has great world building, characters with depth, the narrarator has a good range of voices and the plot never got boring. This book is not perfect by any means, but the issues were manageable. Issues: I felt the narrarator talked slow but 1.20x speed was perfect for me. The audio does have some bad edits where occasionally a couple of words will be repeated. Finally, the author has some weird sentence structure and grammar issues from time to time but nothing particularly noticeable.

Good book, but long winded author

The story was interesting and engaging with promise, it would have had 5 stars if the author was not overexplaing things. He regularly explained his explanations over and over so much that even the action parts get over explained till they drag and bore you.

I kept on rolling my eyes thinking "get on with it men" the story could have been told in 10hrs without the junk and multiple point of view.

The author should trust the intelligence of his readers

You need the right narrator

A good story line but it’s all about the narrator. This title needed a better narrator.

Long winded indeed

Main plot could have been told in 4 hrs maybe 5. But the play-by-play of useless emotions detract a lot from the main story. Author wanted to express emotion but ended up including side characters that don’t matter and a MC that’s turned into a whiny thing. Books like these are always a pain because weirdos like me who need to finish the book to finally say that it thoroughly sucked are left irritated. Everyone seems to withhold information from each other for the “greater good” and it all comes crashing down in the end. Then they wonder how it all went wrong. It’s played out. Plot is generic. The fact that it was cultivation fantasy got me to spend the credit. Man I wish I had it back. Narration was good except on rare occasions his voices gets mixed up when a male and female character are in dialogue. Other than that the narrator did a good job. All in all I probably won’t listen to the next installment.
