Publisher's summary

Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town that celebrates Halloween 365 days a year. The tourists think it's all a show: the vampires, the werewolves, the witches, the occasional gargoyle flying through the sky. But the supernaturals populating the town know better.

Living in Nocturne Falls means being yourself. Fangs, fur, and all.

Fire chief and werewolf Titus Merrow has a pretty good life. Great family, great job, great friends. No love interest, sure, but he’s got too much going on to worry about that. Like the 10K race for charity that he’s helping to plan. Too bad the woman he’s planning it with is so hot. No, wait. He meant annoying.

Sheriff’s deputy and valkyrie Jenna Blythe has somehow gotten stuck working on a charity event with her boss’ brother. Not only is Titus Merrow full of himself, but he challenges every suggestion she makes about the race. Why are the handsome ones always so smug? She can’t wait to beat him in the competition and bring home the trophy for the sheriff’s department. Again.

But when they answer a call together and things explode, dangerous magic is unleashed. They’re suddenly forced to work together. Literally. And the magic only gets more treacherous as time ticks forward. Not even Jenna’s good friend seems to be able to help them as shady forces lurk in every shadow.

Swords and sorcery abound, and Jenna’s past comes back to haunt her. She and Titus are left with no choice but to question everything - and everyone. Who’s targeting them? Is what they’re feeling real? Can love survive against darkness? Can a valkyrie learn to run with the pack?

Tired of listening to stories about humans? Consider the werewolf! Taking various forms over the course of centuries and mythologies, often as flesh-devourers, werewolves now commonly appear in fantasy and romance novels as shape-shifters. The shape-shifting element in werewolves' stories has almost humanized them, depicting the internal struggles we all face within ourselves, on some level or another.

Every trip to Nocturne Falls is as entertaining as the initial trip which can be attributed to the delightful talent of Kristen Painter and B.J. Harrison. I cannot get enough of this magical duo!! I’m chomping at the bit for the next magical journey!! Since I can’t live there, at least I can read about!!

One of my series favorites

The Werewolf Dates the Deputy is book 12 in the Nocturne Falls series. This book is about Titus and Jenna. Titus is a werewolf, the fire chief, and brother to Hank, the sheriff, and Bridgett, the owner of Howlers. Jenna is a Valkyrie, a sheriff deputy, and sister to Tessa, Sebastian’s wife. I love a lot of the books in this series, but this is one of my favorites. I adored this book from beginning to end. It is so creative. It feels like the author has really continued to grow and improve even though she has already been writing such great books. I kept thinking throughout this book that her writing seems as though she is newly invigorated. There is something new and fresh to it.

I finished The Werewolf Dates the Deputy a couple weeks ago and didn’t get a chance to review it right away, so it is no longer fresh enough in my mind to leave a detailed review. I can say that I absolutely loved this book and will without a doubt be listening to it again. In fact, this is a series that will be a regular re-read / re-listen for me. It is a little like returning home whenever I read these books.

The narration was excellent. It is the same narrator for the entire series. He does a great job. I noticed in book 11 that his narration was a bit off and not what I have come to expect from him but he was back to 100% with this book.

I highly recommend this series. Even though, technically, you could probably read all these books as standalone, I think it will be so much more rewarding to start at the beginning and read them in order. There is a spin off series, Jayne Frost, that is also amazing and those overlap with this series so I recommend reading those concurrently.

Oh my gody god god

This is by far one of my favorite books of all time. The climax and all of the plot is just… mua. I love the connection between Jenna and titas and the way they interact and their relationship builds. Going from enemies to an awkward relationship to almost friends and I will say no more so I don’t spoil it. I’ll only really really recommend it to all of you.

I enjoyed the enemies to romance vibe that was going on in this story. Definitely worth a read/listen.

The Last Merrow gets his HEA

I really enjoyed Titus and Jenna's story! The Valkyrie and the werewolf are bound by a mysterious spell. What follows is a tale of chasing down the bad guy and ultimately falling in love. This series is so fun, I just love it.B.J. Harrison is a marvelous narrator.

Another amazin Nocturn Falls book!

Most of the time, I just buy Kristen painter books, I don’t even read the book jacket! This is no exception! I’m looking at it now, to verify I don’t inadvertently give something away.
Since The Vampires Fake Fiancé, I’ve been intrigued by Deputy Blythe. Seeing her relationship with her sister and that dynamic make me want to see her fall and I couldn’t wait to see Painter write it.
With a mix of mystery and hesitancy, Ms Painter delivers a tale that intrigued me from the opening chapter. The attraction that is implied in the begging is overt and, really, it’s just adorable.
Titus and Jenna create a cute couple. The growth and understanding between the two in their insane and forced situation is perfectly done. The tension and growing passion between them is just right. Their restraint is more than I can handle.
