Publisher's summary

This program includes a prologue and epilogue read by the author.

Obstruction of justice, the specter of impeachment, sexism at work, shocking revelations: Jill Wine-Banks takes us inside her trial by fire as a Watergate prosecutor.

It was a time, much like today, when Americans feared for the future of their democracy, and women stood up for equal treatment. At the crossroads of the Watergate scandal and the women’s movement was a young lawyer named Jill Wine Volner (as she was then known), barely 30 years old and the only woman on the team that prosecuted the highest-ranking White House officials. Called "the mini-skirted lawyer" by the press, she fought to receive the respect accorded her male counterparts - and prevailed.

In The Watergate Girl, Jill Wine-Banks opens a window on this troubled time in American history. It is impossible to read about the crimes of Richard Nixon and the people around him without drawing parallels to today’s headlines. The audiobook is also the story of a young woman who sought to make her professional mark while trapped in a failing marriage, buffeted by sexist preconceptions, and harboring secrets of her own. Her house was burgled, her phones were tapped, and even her office garbage was rifled through.

At once a cautionary tale and an inspiration for those who believe in the power of justice and the rule of law, The Watergate Girl is a revelation about our country, our politics, and who we are as a society.

I started slow because I live in a home of trumper

I don't have ALOT of privacy because I live with my Granddaughter, her fiancee and my 1st Great Grandchild.
I have the audio book because I broke my Neck decades ago and I get bad headaches if I read much. Today was a beautiful 76 degrees and blue. skies so I sat on my lounge chair in the back yard and listen to the Watergate Girl. The only complaint. is that I didn't narrate the whole book. I just started seeing u on msnbc a few years ago and I love your great brooches. My Father had told me Nixon was like every other President but he just got caught. He died in the late 1970s so he never got to go thru 45s 4 years or he may have felt different. If u feel like writing another book I would love to listen to it just narrate it yourself. keep enjoying your life with your 2nd husband he sounds ALOT better than your 1st. Great Memoir and Bio in one

Excellent gift for a daughter who is considering law. The ability to self-determine the course of her life comes through. I was impressed by the variety of her jobs and accomplishments and fun she had. Also I think that there is something to be learned from this history. What if Trump resigns and Pence Pardons him as Ford did Nixon?

A Watergate prosecutor's personal history.

Excellent. The history of women in the legal profession, 1960's-80''s, along with the Watergate story, and her own personal tale.

A warrior for women vía a living example of self respect. Some hard truth; makes stark how much worse our government is today.

Inspiring. A warrior for women and diversity.

Watergate Girl

My only negative, wish Jill had recorded the whole book. Nothing against Cassandra, she was great, but would have enjoyed listening to Jill fo it.

Rivoting narrative, JWB is an inspiration

I debated with myself about getting this book. I never read non-fiction and I'm not particularly interested in Nixon or the 1970s. However, I became a JWB fan due to her commentary on MSNBC and now I'm hooked on her podcast Hashtag Sisters-In-Law. When all her fantastic co-hosts said they were reading or listening on Audible, I gave in. And I'm so glad I did! I wish JWB had read the book (though the narrator was excellent) but I was hooked from the prolog. Too many things seem unreal, only to be the crazy truth. If you're ambivalent about this era, JWB will draw you in. I learned so much history while being thoroughly entertained, though every time when of Nixon's men went down for his crimes, I compared it to the last 4 years and Trump. All those corrupt, venal, and awful people will never be held account for crimes, as proven when the Republicans let Trump get away with countless crimes and murder (his January 6th insurrection). But of course, Nixon wasn't held accountable, either, though everything he touched died, too. JWB gives me hope, though, for all the lawyers working diligently in New York, Georgia, and elsewhere to investigate Trump's crimes and bring him to a court of law, if not justice.
