Publisher's summary

Gun rights advocate John Lott, author of More Guns, Less Crime, rebuts recent antigun "factoids" with real statistics.

When it comes to the gun control debate, there are two kinds of data: data that's accurate and data that left-wing billionaires, politicians, and media want you to believe is accurate. In The War on Guns, economist and gun rights advocate John Lott turns a skeptical eye to well-funded antigun studies and stories that perpetuate false statistics to frighten Americans into giving up their guns.

INCREDIBLY IGNORANT

I consider myself slightly more knowledgable than most with regard to the Gun-Control/2nd Ammendment debate.

However, the facts, charts, and statistics, presented in this book highlighted how incredibly ignorant I was.

For anyone slightly interested in this topic and how the media generally (and Mike Bloomberg specifically) helped shape many of my - and probably your - misperceptions, this book is a must read/listen.

Real facts on guns.

Excellent book. The Canadian government needs to read this book! As a Canadian citizen I envy the personal rights and freedoms Americans have.

Bogus claims by a dishonest author

To say the author cherry-picks data, is to be excessively kind. He routinely dismisses inconvenient data and flat out invents scenarios to support his agenda. Case in point, he tries to suggest that a shooter targeting exclusively police was an example of exploiting a gun-free zone. it'd be laughable if it weren't so illogical, and the consequences so inept. His efforts to be the defender of the poor are shallow, as well, This author has no affinity for poor, much less minority poor. One only needs to research the author to find that he has faked personas to manufacture support for himself. Sound like anyone else we know? And all this pearl-clutching from frightened conservatives, when nobody has ever actually tried to come after their guns.

Eye opening

This was a terrific and well researched book. I had little idea as to how far the yearning to disarm the American public went. Some of the arguments and tactics described transcend the gun control debate to all facets of our culture. This should stand as a warning that all who don't fall in line are subject to strict censure.

Big grains of salt needed

In essence, decent information but tainted with occasional statements that the author MUST KNOW to be misleading.

For example, Dr Lott claims that four people were killed in a coffee shop in Lakewood Washington that was a gun free zone. He strongly suggests that the “gun free”ness of the coffee shop led to the shooting.

He never mentions that the four people shot and killed were all armed police officers that were ambushed. One of the officers actually managed to try and engage the suspect but was unsuccessful.

I’m sure he could have used this as an example of some other point he was trying to make elsewhere, but he either purposefully lumped it in to his “gun free zone” discussion to pump up the statistics he was using (a claim he throws out that the anti-gunners do...set an example sir), OR he was completely unaware of that fact that a man on a mission to kill police specifically came into the coffee shop. Seems unlikely.

Regardless, not bad but now I have to be super skeptical of ALL of his claims.

Another Terrific book by Dr. John Lott Jr., PhD

Everyone should read/listen to this book as well as his other books including the book written after his empirical study “More Guns, Less Crime”.

Dr. Lott chose the right man to read his book. John McLain was a terrific reader with a fantastic voice. He will not put you to sleep.

You will not be disappointed reading/listening to Dr. Lott’s books.

Beyond worth the purchase!

I smply lack the summary skills necessary to describe the information passed through this book. If you are intrested in gun control and you want to see exactly how it is being manipulated and you really want the actual answers you need this book.

I will repeat that, if you actually care about where the statistical data comes from how it is manipulated and what is wrong about it you need this book!

John R. Lott PHD is a phenomenal economist, and is worth every ounce of that title in this book. he goes above and beyond to clarify and correct the statistical and research driven inaccuracy presented by the anti gun lobby, without the skew of any political or preferential lens.

Pure raw unequivocal unbiased, complete data.
Truly a FACTS do not care about your feelings read.
