Publisher's summary

The Shadow matches wits against Dr. Rodil Mocquino, the so-called Voodoo Master. Dr. Mocquino possesses a strange hypnotic power over men that causes them to do his bidding like mindless zombies. When the evil Voodoo Doctor creates an army of walking dead drones to carry out his latest vile plan, it's up to The Shadow to put an end to the black magic and the doctor himself.

One More Great Thriller

The Voodoo Master is another great pulp mystery from the annals of The Shadow.

After encountering a mysteriously dazed man, a doctor calls upon the Shadow’s aid to regain the man’s mental health, but in doing so uncovers an evil plot to rob and murder at the hands of a cult of Voodoo worshipers. Now only the Shadow can track their leader and bring him to justice.

This story this time around is a little more low key than the globe trotting adventure of the Romanov Jewels, or the identity switching of The Shadow Unmasks, but the writing paints just as much of a mental picture as the others.

Richard Ferrone’s narration fits the tone and atmosphere of the story and does a great job even without the full cast to flesh out the characters.
The only thing I really miss about this one is the lack of music at each chapter heading, but the story does not suffer form its absence.

I really enjoyed this book and hope that there will be more in the future.

WE NEED MORE PULP AUDIOBOOKS

The shadow is a character that really deserves more appreciation in 2022. This audiobooks is a great introduction to a series that set the foundation for the modern superhero. The audiobook is perfect in structure and in performance and I cannot recommend it enough.

There’s pulp fiction, and there’s PULP FICTION.

Maxwell Grant, real name Walter B. Gibson, was one of the most prolific authors of the 30s and 40s. He didn’t create the character, but he perfected it, and in the process created one of the greatest pulp heroes of all time. The Shadow.
As with every other Grant Shadow novel I’ve ever read, this one introduces a repeat villain who will become rather bothersome to the man known to the criminal world as “The Shadow.” 10/10

We need more The shadows books

I like this hero a more classic version of Batman leaning more to the detective side then the man with 1000 gadgets. The reader and how it’s written get a little irritating. Every time he says (the shadow) He sounds like he’s having an orgasm the book says A lot like at least three times every paragraph and more. So you keep hearing him say (the shadow)In this overdramatic tone too many times but overall it’s a good book series and I would like more of them

Absolutely love the Shadow.

I have all the books I could get from years ago, and loved the entire series. I also have all of the radio dramas.

A let down.

I really enjoyed the first two Shadow audiobooks. They had several cast members and seemed like a pretty good production. The Voodoo Master is simply narrated with the narrator providing the different characters voices. Seems kind of cheap and thrown together. Hopefully if there’s another one it will be done better.
