Publisher's Summary

The Virginia Valley is an historical novel set in the 1840s that chronicles the journey of an Irish blacksmith, Aidan Smith, and his family to labor alongside African American slaves at High Meadows plantation in Virginia as indentured servants.

The Smiths are generally accepted in their new culture and feel a closeness to the slaves nurtured by common faith. But that faith is tested by events that threaten to destroy the owners of the plantation, Aidan, and the closest of his new friends and allies.

A Compelling Story of Hope, Love and Reconciliation

The Virginia Valley is the first of what I hope will be many more novels by Douglas Malcolm. Reading this beautiful story stirred so many emotions with times of joy, sorrow, love, fear, hardships and inspiration. Hearing Douglas narrate the story and sing the meaningful songs brought each character’s personality and heart to life even more clearly.
The Virginia Valley reminds us all that God has a purpose and a plan for each of us. It brings Glory to God and is a message of hope and reconciliation to a world that desperately needs it.
I highly recommend this audible book to everyone!

fresh theme

Really enjoyed the story and the characters. The performer who read the story displayed a variety of very believable voices. I enjoyed that the characters that developed relationships valued each other as people, not overly obsessed with their skin color.
