Publisher's summary

In the witty, sizzling finale to award-winning author Nancy Herkness's Wager of Hearts series, a haunted writer conquers his demons with the help of a feisty muse and a passion that doesn't play by the book.

Gavin Miller, the billionaire author of a best-selling thriller series, struggles with a grim secret: he hasn't written a word in more than a year.

Writer's block is killing his spirit and jeopardizing his contracts with his publisher and his Hollywood producers. Prodded by his agent, Gavin reluctantly agrees to see Allie Nichols, a sassy physical therapist tasked with treating the novelist's severe neck and shoulder pain - and maybe his writer's block, too.

The tempestuous Gavin and no-nonsense Allie soon find themselves entangled in a steamy affair that sparks Gavin's creativity again. But their manipulative ex-lovers and Gavin's lingering childhood scars threaten their happily ever after. Can Gavin and Allie find their way to love when the stakes are high and the obstacles are overwhelming?

No story, just sex

The first two in the series were good, but this one was just sex, sex, sex. That is not romance.

Therapy needed!

I was really looking forward to listening to this story to learn why the writer was so prickly and enjoyed the majority of the story. Where it went off the rails for me is when the H's overly-controlling, over-bearing jealousy and extreme insecurity was exposed. As a guy, I really don't understand how any woman could find extreme jealousy desirable or sexy.

No you can't wear that because other guys will see you and want you.

Who has she shared this liquor with?

How many seconds do I have to wait to beat up a guy for looking at you?

Really?
I know that our H has issues caused by his parents divorce, evil step-momster and terrible previous girlfriend which will cause some insecurity. His insecurity bordered on dangerous and he needs therapy before entering into a committed relationship.

All's well that ends well but I do wish that authors would quit glorifying obsessively controlling and extremely jealous behavior.

Horrible job with male voices

Good series but this narrator does not do male voices wel, sometimes so hard to tell the male vs female voices. Kind of ruined the whole series for me.

Inner feminist has left the building

Book 3 in the series has my bra-burning inner self banging her head against the wall. Yes, I did buy these books, yes I did listen to each one, yes, I did like them - stop with the self-shaming!

Gavin, the author, with a deadline and a serious case of writers block, is the most miserable of the three love-less men. With the other two finding love, Gavin is living his tortured past, which is gripping his life today. Enter therapy and therapist. Angst, history and pain are revealed, a whole bunch of crazy sex thrown into the mix and Cinderella is again cheering when a happy Gavin crosses the finish line with love.

Sappy, sexy, funny, more sexy, and wait.... oh, my God, Gloria Steinem has ripped the earphones from me and is listening to the sex! Ok, I think we'll all have a cigarette here and wrap this series up.

I did it. I bought the series. I listened to all 3. I even wrote about it, admitting it!

Now it's your turn.

My Favorite of the Wager of Hearts Trilogy

Nancy Herkness tells Gavin’s story in The VIP Doubles Down, third of three novels in the Wager of Hearts trilogy. I enjoyed all three books. This one offers a fully developed look at Gavin, a troubled novelist facing writer’s block. The book delivers a love story mixed with lingering issues from a difficult childhood and the loss of Gavin’s creative muse. I’ve listened to all three books several times- definitely on my list of favorites,

I liked reading the book, but…

I read the story first through Kindle Unlimited, then wanted to hear the audio. Unfortunately, the narrator spoiled it for me. Her narration had good pace and speed, but her characters were not very distinguished from each other, and her male voices were very disappointing. I DNF’d the audio.

The VIP Doubles Down

I loved this one! Gavin is a writer who has not written a word of the novel he is under contract for and it has him in knots. His publisher send a physical therapist over to work out the knots in his shoulders and arms and apparently she is as well versed in his novels and characters as he is. Even though he fires her on the spot they work out a deal. Soon the chemistry takes over and she is working for him as an assistant instead of a therapist and he is writing again. This was probably my favorite of this series, although I did love them all.

better than I thought

I was going by some of the review on here, about how abusive the main Male character was but it was really off, people need to stop taking these books so personal, other than that it was a great book, the only thing that I don't like was that there was only one narrator
