Crime Solved
I totally enjoyed this realistic, complicated crime book which I could not stop listening. Good narration and great characters which include Dr.Orville Madison, Detective Ray Blocker, Addie (Orville’s wife), Cassandra (daughter and victim), Peewee (Charles), Bugsy (Willie), Marvin and Detective Kyle Atkins. The book is about Orville’ daughter beaten raped and shot and he wants revenge always saying “Everything I did, I did for you”. The book is full of realistic action, twists and turns that is heart and guts wrenching and highly recommend this suspenseful thriller and would enjoy listening to more of author’s book with same narrator. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. THANK YOU!

All's well that ends well!
This is an excellent detective thriller. We are presented with a complex tale of morals and devotion; devotion to family and to God. The hook is when this devotion between family and God conflicts. Our leading man is Ray Blocker, a Miami-Dade homicide detective Sargent of thirty years, with more solved cases than any five detectives put together. The relationship between Blocker and Dominique was a wonderful addition to the story. It gave Blocker a personality and added a new perspective to his background and character. It took a little time, but it did conclude as I had hoped. The treatment Blocker received from his department really irritated me, but that too ended well. Our co-star Orville T. Madison is the man suffering in turmoil; the turmoil of devotion. There were so many twists and turns, it was almost amusing when another one popped up. I’m thinking the author could not control himself and kept adding layer upon layer to the plot. Honestly, this is a great story, and one highly recommended. Interesting listen
The opening chapters in this book have the character using the word "jive". I start thinking it will be set in the 60's. Then the author makes a reference to low-hanging jeans. Well, that's the 2000's. I knew the author was an ex-cop so I tried not to let disjointed imagery like this take me out of the listen. It happened a few other times but if you like a full-frontal crime story, this listen will deliver.
The narrator was all over the place (in a good way.) There were a slew of characters and ages and cultures and professions and he made easy work of them. It was very impressive.
This book is a hard listen and it does not miss on any of the police procedures. Come prepared.

Revenge so sweet
I enjoyed the story and the narration. There were points of the story where I think the main character talked about how torn he was between revenge and religion, but did not seem as affected by breaking all the rules as he should have been. Some of his actions went too far against his moral code without the cognitive dissonance that he should have felt.
That being said, The story was compelling and kept my interest throughout. The pacing was quick and fluid.
The narration was done well. A perfect narrator for this story.

AWESOME!!
Wow, what conflict and suspense!
Very engaging and thought-provoking audiobook, not to mention an awesome story!
I loved the writing and the narration, and really enjoyed the listen. It's good!! :) I've often thought about what I, or someone I love, would do in the same situation. I watch too many True Crime ID shows haha, and if it were me, the ones who committed the crime would be toast. But, is that what God teaches us?

The Greatest Swan Song Ever
Do two wrongs make a right? Well, I guess you can say that depends on the situation and if there is an upside to one or both of the wrongs. What do you do when the one you love and looks up to you for protection is violated and abused so badly, that their life will never be the same?? As a parent, who loves their child unconditionally, you do whatever you have to do. This is the basis of this wonderful book. Where God fearing Dr. Orville Madison has to make the decision of what to do when is only child is gang raped, loses an eye due to being shot in the head, ends up pregnant due to the rape, has STDs due to the rape and worse of all is with her boyfriend, who is shot and killed by those who gang raped her...this is a decision that most of us parents would not want to make. Dr Madison is respected in the community for his charitable work, his contributions on ethics for abortion and his love of God, however, he has to make some heart wrenching decisions, including aborting his own grandchild, so that his daughter's mental state can remain sane, as depression has overcome her.
This book is well done and the narration was perfect.....speaking of narration, I LOVE how Scott Sutherland, has Pee-Wee screaming in the background when he was shot in the nuts....sometimes it is just the little things and going the extra mile, that can make a book stand out, which was done within this book

I love when a book turns out better than I expect
I thought this sounded like it would be a good book but it was way better than I was expecting. I like suspense books that keep me wondering and thinking about what is coming, but this had me totally wrapped up in the storyline. I didn't know what was about to happen and didn't want to stop listening. I just had to keep listening to find out what was coming next. There were some very difficult decisions to be made in this book, some I would never want to have to make myself. The narration was also fabulous and the voices fit each one of the characters very well. Overall, this was an excellent book. I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator.

Everything I did I did for you.
Dr.Orville Madison is not only a wealthy, much loved medical doctor in his area, he is also an active church member and respected on the po!itical scene for his public support of the pro Life movement. But he has last experience of how imperfect and cruel the judicial system can be so, when his 16 years old only daughter is brutally raped and left for dead, her boyfriend shot and murdered, he does not trust the system to not add to her horrific ordeal. Instead, he decides to secretly become judge, Jury and executioner of those youths he believes to be guilty.
This is a richly woven story of love in many facets, from long enduring and life affirming, through domineering, selfish and possessive, to redemptive, as well as love's absence. It is also a good thriller and police procedural as the forces of law attempt to trace not only the culprits of the crime against Cassandra Madison and her young partner but also the identity of a body found badly decomposed in the Everglades and numerous other incidents occurring in the same time frame. The two main protagonists, Dr.Madison himself and a decades long serviced, compassionate leader of the police team, Detective Sergeant Raymond Blocker, are well drawn but there are also good thumbnail sketches of several of the other numerous characters met along the way. It is an emotional book, rife with internal conflict and protection of reputation oozing from the pages.
Narration by Scott Sutherland is excellent. As well as individually and appropriately voicing each of the protagonist, in so doing he imparts a further layer of real life humanity to each. His reading of the text is well modulated, conveyed with understanding and emotion - a good performance overall which very much adds to the book's enjoyment.
My thanks to the rights holder of The Upside to Murder, who, at my request, freely gifted me a complimentary copy, via Audiobook Boom. Whilst I found the central character to be unpleasant and overbearing (agreeing with the comment of his much overlooked wife,'This is not about you'), his feelings were certainly understandable and human, and the picture painted of life within the police force itself was a major cause for concern. Thought provoking and engrossing, this book was certainly a good read, and recommended.
