Publisher's Summary

To present an example of intentional, faithful, and passionate Christian living, Dr. Steven J. Lawson paints a portrait of 18th-century pastor and theologian Jonathan Edwards, who structured his relationship with God by composing and following 70 heart-searching resolutions. Edwards, often remembered for his sermon Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, is revealed here as a man with a heart for God's glory above all things. To help himself pursue that goal, he composed a set of resolutions to guide his conduct in all areas, from his battle against sin to his use of time. In Edwards' singleminded pursuit of God, Dr. Lawson sees an unparalleled example for modern Christians.

Well written and well read

Dr Lawson does a great job of motivating the reader/listener to pursue holiness through the example of Jonathan Edwards.

Resolve

I love to hear the life of holy men of God who themselves have seen their own inadequacy. Edwards seems to live by the passage take the own log out of your eye before you take the splinter out of another's. His desire seems to be the freedom of those who walk in Christ.
This read is a must for those desiring to walk as Christ walk and to be a witness to a world that needs a Savior.
What I liked the most was Edwards drive to love others as Christ loved him.

Extremely thought-provoking

In this book we examine how Jonathan Edwards took very seriously the pursuit of holiness in his life through his 70 resolutions. I found this to be extremely thought-provoking and rare. I pray that I would take the pursuit of holiness as seriously as Edwards did. I highly recommend this book if you are also looking to go deeper with God and pursue holiness.

Great Book with Great Encouragement

Jonathan Edwards is a theological hero to many but here his life, ministry, and theology personally challenge every Christian. Especially encouraging was Edwards' battle against particular sins.

Insightful

What I appreciated most about this work is Lawson's approach by following along the timeline of Edwards' resolutions. The greatest benefit was gaining insight to the spiritual development of Edwards and see how human the man really was. His struggles in sanctification give us all hope that God will see us through to the end.
