Story
The 1940s: hard-boiled detectives and femmes fatale are box-office gold. In one iconic scene, set in a deserted museum, the private eye arrives too late, and the buxom beauty is throttled by an ominous Egyptian priest. Now: the Black Box Cinema immortalizes Hollywood’s Golden Age in its gallery of film noir tributes. But the mannequin of that Egyptian priest is hardly lifeless. He walks - and a young starlet dies a terrifying death. Movie mogul Eddie Archer’s son is charged with the grisly murder.

The details of the crime scene are no coincidence. The body — a promising starlet — has been battered, bloodied and then discarded between two of Manhattan’s oldest graveyards. One look and Detective Jude Crosby recognizes the tableau: a re-creation of Jack the Ripper’s gruesome work. But he also sees something beyond the actions of a mere copycat. Something more dangerous...and unexplainable.

Publisher's Summary
It is 1898. Bound for Chicago, the freighter Jerry McGuen goes down in Lake Michigan, taking with it every man aboard. But what other fate could befall a vessel carrying the ill-gotten sarcophagus of an Egyptian sorcerer?
Now: A veteran diver and “ghost ship” expert is exploring the legendary wreck for a documentary. He dies inexplicably inside the freighter’s main saloon. Then another diver is killed, and panicked rumors rise like bubbles from the lake: ancient demons have awakened below!
The expedition’s beleaguered financier calls paranormal investigator Katya Sokolov to Chicago to save the film - and perhaps some innocent lives. Along with media forensics guru Will Chan, Kat plumbs the depths of an evil that may date back to the time of the Pharaohs. But some secrets are best drowned in the seas of the past....

Terrible narration!
I struggled to listen to this whole book due to the terrible narrator! The voice for the hero was just awful. He sounded like he had a bad accent that reminded me of an old movie Asian bad guy! I usually enjoy Heather Graham's stories but this one just seem to plod along with an obvious and silly ending. Not only that, but she used the main characters to explain what had happened in lengthy detail where if you paid attention to the story at all was self explanatory. Save your money & look for a better story.

Accents irritating
I enjoyed the story but have to say the accents given to Will and Logan were irritating and totally over done. Will's accent was too heavy and didn't sound like someone from Trinidad who had a light accent. Logan sounded like an imitation of Sam Elliott. Just a bit too much in both cases and made listening difficult at times.

So excited I actually figured this one out! Okay, I thought it was someone else, but then didn't. AND I wasn't completely sure until the end, but I guessed right. The true mystery is how Heather Graham keeps cranking out such incredible stories! Luke Daniels...I want to marry his voice. Lol! Love this series!

Inconsistency
Technically this is another good Krewe book. I didn't give it a great rating because I felt that Will's character in this book was completely changed and I didn't see a purpose for it. Plus his skills were not really put to use. Much preferred Will as portrayed in earlier books.

The Unspoken delivers on twists and turns.
Where does The Unspoken rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It wasn't my favorite but it still keep me wanting to read more. The idea of diving in the cold water of Lake Michigan just wasn't appealing. The Egyptian storyline kept me interested. And of course I had to love the cat.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Cat was my favorite. She was so respectful of the dead & willing to listen to them made me want to meet her. She was strong when she needed to be & soft when it counted.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
The first medical examiner in Chicago reminded me of Kermit the Frog with the voice. All the other characters were great.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Can't say that it did.
Any additional comments?
The book was enjoyable. I think where the setting was could be why it wasn't a favorite, but that's also a personal preference. I've already started on my next in the series.

Book 7 of The Krewe of Hunters
The story, based around (loosely) Egyptian Mythology, leads to murder, mystery and romance in the city of Chicago and on/under Lake Michigan.
There are a few red herrings and twists.
I enjoy this genre: paranormal+ romance + murder mystery.
Ok, I am listening to all the books in the series in order, but I could predict the love interest from the first chapter! Maybe a little variation in the format would be welcomed.
