Publisher's summary

A Pride and Prejudice variation.

Mr. Darcy arrives at Longbourn, intending to correct the mistakes he made during his disastrous proposal in Hunsford. To his horror, he learns Elizabeth Bennet was killed in a ship’s explosion off the coast of France - in an apparent act of sabotage. Deep in despair, he travels in disguise to wartime France to seek out the spy responsible for her death.

But a surprise awaits Darcy in the French town of Saint-Malo: Elizabeth is alive!

Recovering from a blow to the head, Elizabeth has no memory of her previous life, and a series of mistakes leads her to believe Darcy is her husband. However, they have even bigger problems. As they travel through a hostile country, the saboteur mobilizes Napoleon’s network of spies to capture them and prevent them from returning home. Elizabeth slowly regains her memories, but they often leave her more confused.

Darcy will do anything to help Elizabeth reach England safely, but what will she think of him when she learns the truth of their relationship?

Imaginative

Elizabeth is presumed by the time Mr. Darcy arrives at Longborn to renew his addresses. She was on a boat on her way to visit a friend off the coast of wartime France when her ship blew up. Mr. Darcy was devistated. He goes to France to find closure by recovering her body and seeking revenge on the double agent that was responsible for her death. He is injured in a botched attempted robbery. When he went to seek medical attention, he found Elizabeth unconscious but quite alive. The adventure begins when they head for home.

Good story

I really loved Darcy in this book but when E got her memory back, I was disappointed in the way she acted. Really after all that happened. Of course ODC in the end were together but would have loved a bit more of how E was in love with D. You would never know.

Simplistic writing...

I’m sorry, I love P&P so I took a chance, but the writing was just not engaging. The premise of the story was intriguing but the execution was boring. About an hour in I started skipping ahead. It never improved so I pulled the plug.

Sweet story

This is a very sweet Pride and Prejudice variation. Darcy comes to Longbourne to try to convince Elizabeth that he loves her and that they should marry. When he arrives, he is told that Elizabeth was killed in an explosion of the ship on which she was a passenger near France. Broken hearted, Darcy goes to France to avenge her death only to find her alive with amnesia.
He tells her that he is her husband and that they must escape back to England. France and England are at war and getting back to England is dangerous. The story is about their perilous journey and their pretend relationship. Very sweet story and also exciting. The narration is excellent.

Immensely Delightful, Engaging Story

It’s been decades since I read Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice”, but I do remember the tension between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy. Ms. Kincaid has written a captivating story that sustains interest throughout its development. She cleverly maintains the tension between Elizabeth and Darcy without overdoing it and while developing their growing attraction. It’s an enormously fun read, and I greatly look forward to listening to more of her books.

C'était magnifique!!! 😍 😚

Another wonderful book by Victoria Kincaid. The storyline in this book is quite unique and I really enjoyed it. The tenderness that Mr Darcy expresses with Elizabeth is quite moving and humbling.
Stevie Zimmerman, as always, brings the story to life.

not developed enough

needed more depth of interest or maybe fewer supporting characters to establish an emotional connection by the reader to the subjects. I didn't feel the connection between D or E to anyone else in the story. I just wasn't feeling this one and I'm a P & P addict. Not even the amazing Stevie Zimmerman could save this one for me

Loved it!

Stevie Zimmerman’s narration and performance of characters excels, as always, in this multi-trope variation. There’s a little bit of everything involved in this story. Darcy believes Elizabeth has died at the hand of French spies and when he goes to seek the culprit, he discovers her alive, but injured and without her memories. To protect her and in order to stay with her, he claims to be her husband.

I wept during the very emotional first and last chapters. Poor dear Darcy. I highly recommend this well-written book and audiobook. I listened without pause until the end.

Lots of adventure!

Darcy and Lizzy find themselves in enemy territory and they risk life and limb to get back to England safely. Darcy remains a gentleman, with great difficulty, but still has to figure out when and how to confess all to Lizzy.

There are a few nail biting moments and some we see coming. Overall, it’s an exciting tale for ODC.

Stevie Zimmerman does a fantastic job, as usual.
