Publisher's Summary

How far would you go for someone you love?

In 1992, Amy Bridgeman disappeared. Her brother is going back to discover the truth.

Joseph Bridgeman - a reclusive insomniac with a weakness for The Beatles on vinyl - accidentally discovers he can time travel. With the help of Vinny, a local record shop owner, an old school friend, and Alexia Finch (his hypo-time-travel guru), Joe sets out to change the course of his life. He needs to get back to 1992, the year his world fell apart, the year his sister went missing. The only problem (apart from his clothes disappearing) is that the further back he goes the less time he gets to stay there. Can Joe master his new-found gift before time catches up with him?

If you love time-travel, you’ll love The Unexpected Gift of Joseph Bridgeman: It has shades of Back to the Future and The Time Traveller's Wife. Real characters, mystery, and adventure combine in this emotionally intelligent pause resister. Described by fans as sharp, mind-bending, and fearlessly funny.

A rollicking read!

I love reading time travel books. I started with Jack Finney’s Time and Again in 1976 and until now, have never read another on the same par. It kept me engaged the whole time, and I look forward to the rest of the series. Anyone interested in fishing in the time travel stream will love this book.

Excellent time travel book

Although it took me a few chapters to connect with this book by the end I could not stop listening. If you love time travel books, as I do, this is a definite must read for you.

Great story well told

I loved the way the business of time travel is told. Instead of just traveling they tell how they did it why they did it kind of geeky. The whole story revolves around this man trying to save his younger sister because of the guilt of letting her get “taken”The ending is predictable but there’s a couple twists along the way. It is definitely worth a credit credit. It’s a real good feel good story !

I thoroughly enjoyed this time travel

I enjoy the genre of time travel & always get a kick out of the way different authors deal with the potential negative effects of time travel. Nick Jones is no exception in this regard, however his take on time travel is quite unique. In this first book, the protagonist, Joseph Bridgeman, had one mission – to prevent the loss of his sister — a tragedy that affected his entire family in such horrific ways that he could no longer function effectively in life. Then he unexpectedly time travels & begins to believe that he might be able to travel back in time and save her. But to have a chance at success, he’ll have to learn to control his jumps, with the time stream fighting him every inch of the way. I enjoyed the challenges Joe faced, and the fact that every time travel jump comes at a price. I look forward to additional books in this series.

Rather well Done

I found the book fascinating. It explores time travel in a unique way. The characters are rich and likeable. Disappointed that the writers discomfort in writing more than two characters into a scene kept a broader character interaction at a minimum. He clearly can do it, as he did in a couple of scenes. But overall I can highly recommend this book, it is clever, well written, and has a nice pace.

Engaging story

I enjoyed this story and loved the twist of what really happened to Amy. The one critique is there was a bit of strong language. I was wondering about a few younger people to recommend this to, but I won't because of the language. Otherwise an engaging story.

Solid, fun book. likeable characters.

Sadly I had predicted the plot twist early on. (I know we all hate when people brag that). But the cheery, nervous nature of the lead character and the other main characters are all excellent, likeable and fun. Enjoyed a book that had realistic reactions and actions considering the situation. Not as slick as other time travel titles like Extracted but a fun very quirky, well written listen.

amazing

I had become somewhat jaded after a few lack lustre book purchases.
This book is a joy!
the time travellers wife comparison is right but a lot less bleak. I just stayed up until an unreasonable hour to hear the ending.
can't wait to listen to the sequel

Time Travelling Gold

So the permise of this story has been done countless times. A man learns he can time travel and goes back to alter his past, bit do not let that stop you listening to this. Nick Jones has imagined this beautifully and included more twists and turns than you can shake a stick at! The writing is witty and knowledgeable in equal measure and makes it effortless to read so you become engaged with the protagonist and his story and never think about the Author. There are moments of high drama and genuine surprises along the journey which I loved. I was torn between slowing down as I neared the end to make it last or speeding up to reach the conclusion- not often that happens! downloaded book 2 immediately.
