Thank God for Coffee and Smokes

It's good to see that R.R. Haywood realized that some things will be just as important after the zombies arrive as they are now!

With that being said, another brilliant episode in the Undead series. Part of you wants to hurry up and listen so you can absorb it and get to the next. The other part wants to savor it and make it last.

Just like a cuppa and a nice smoke.

it's okay...

I really enjoy this series but when I got to this book I was almost ready to hang it up.
The repetitive funny dumbness stuff was fine once in awhile but after this book it's just plain annoying, you'll know exactly what I mean when you listen. it's like it's used for filler to make the book longer. I hope the next book improves.

Much better.

Book 13 was a struggle to finish but this book was much better! There was character development (which the last book lacked greatly) and the story is finally getting to a point (which last one just dragged). No problems finishing this one!

Side note... There were a few spots at the end (the intense scenes) where Joe mixed up the character voices. Not criticizing. Just an observation. Didn't really care because thing were getting good and intense... I just threw me off guard.

Haywood is a freak!

Let me start off and say I think this one is the best in the series so far. The first two chapters nearly caused me to have nose to tail car accident! The bloke in the car who I nearly rear ended must have thought I was a complete and proper ‘igit’, skidding to a halt while laughing out loud. I was laughing so hard I think a little bit of wee came out, it could have been the laughter or the shock of the near miss… I’m not sure!

Joe Jameson does an excellent job as the narrator with so many characters. What I think is so impressive is that he does this is such a rapid and fluid way. It sounds as though you are listening to a room full of people rather than just one man. The debate over Dan Morgan v Joe Jameson must surely be over now? Because, in my mind both of them have done a great job for this series!

How R.R Haywood manages to keep this series going so long is remarkable. But then I sit down and reflect about each one. Take this one for example, the reality is that the ‘team’ or ‘pack’ move from one place to another place. There isn’t actually a lot of big things happening. I won’t give away any plot or spoilers. So I come to the conclusion that R.R Haywood keeps this series alive simply by the sheer character development skills and descriptive language. I wish I had his ability. Alas, I don’t! You can tell by my writing in these reviews.

The only negative I have for this one is so small it is almost pointless! The epilogue didn’t really reveal anything new for the next in the series. It was a throw back to the last.

Some might ask why bother writing a review on a book 14 in a series? I can only say, I want to because I liked it so much! And because I hope too encourage R.R Haywood and Joe Jameson to keep up the brilliant work. It is titles like these one’s which make my terrible work day and horrible commute so much better. Sometimes, I find myself wishing for a traffic delay just so I can listen to more of the story. Which by the way leads me to last praise for the title. Once again the dollar per hour value is great, another 15 hour length story!

Ok I will shut up now and get to the important bit…. the final thoughts…. the final rating… drum roll please….

This fast fatman is sitting on top of his fortress looking down at the zombie horde below in all his naked glory, holding two fat thumbs high in the sky saying ‘heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey!’ Fronzie style. This one rocks! All of the previous 13 rocked! And please please may all of the next one’s be as good!

PS. Some people have tracked me on the good old inter webs and asked if I receive free copies of the titles I review, or if I get paid for reviews. I can say beyond any shadow of doubt, the answer is no I have not. Some authors have offered, but I have said no.

Straight to the next book

This is one of my favourite series. The contrast between full on gritty, gory blow by blow battle and absolute lunacy of their banter is wonderful. I am totally invested in each and every member of the team. Seeing the characters change and grow is a delight. Can hardly wait to see what the addition of NB brings. Therefore, on to the next book. Thank you Mr Haywood.

A zombie apocalypse story with heart

If you're listening to this series you will laugh & cry with this one. The humanity is still there, Nick, Blowers & Cookie are still carrying on with Momo adding to the entire family like cream in coffee. Coffees with a smoke are still the blessed relief and Reggie (Reginald) and Marcie are finding their places.

Enjoy another day in the life of Mr. Howie & Dave, with Clarence, Paula, Roy & Meredith being joined by more stinking putrid flesh bags and some new surprises & characters.

Thanks for fixing Dave!

I loved it just like all the others. I was initially upset by the new narrator's reading of Dave... totally redeemed himself in this one. The story was good as always. It really amazes me how the author turns the most mudane things into entertainment. There is never a single boring moment in this book or any of the previous ones. The little things are what make these books for me. Sure all the bloody zombie action is cool but most zombie novels have that. It's all the other stuff that make this series at the top of my list of favorites. If you don't laugh and cry and hang on every word... then your a zombie.
