Transcendental Meditation for Beginners

The first part provides history and a disclaimer that meditation is non denominational and should not take the place of medical physicians or prescription medication without speaking to professional first. I think this was important, since some may take that step.

The second part was very soothing and calming. Anastastia has a relaxing tone to facilitate and induce the meditation. I would love to find more books by her.
The background music added to the serenity.

Highly recommended for all persons who need help to wind down.

Great guide to meditation!

Meditation and mindfulness are growing in popularity because of the increasing evidence of health benefits from reduced stress. However, it's been hard to try out meditation without some sort of guidance -- the paper books I've read don't translate naturally into actual meditation practice.

Enter the audiobook. This has been a great way to sit back, close my eyes, and let the narrator guide me through simple practices of clearing my mind, settling my thoughts, and focusing on the natural rhythm of my breathing. I've very much enjoyed listening to these guided exercises as my introduction to meditation. Strongly recommended!

Nicely Done!!!

I recommend this book as a good introduction to TM meditation. It covers the basics of developing a TM practice.

Surrender to the Divine

I enjoyed this audiobook, which was the first I’ve ever listened to. The narrator’s voice was calming, and I looked forward to listening to her read the book to me. I did get a bit bored during some of the more scholarly sections, so I speeded up the narration to 1.25x to get through those.

As for the book itself, I learned a lot! It goes through historical facts around transcendental meditation and how TM has traditionally been practiced. The author explains how TM differs from modern practices of “mindfulness” and why the mantra, based on the Sanskrit language, is considered a sacred protector, not just a pathway to meditation. Interestingly, one’s mantra should be thought of as one dies to ensure an easier transition to the afterlife. Who knew?!

The audiobook relates a number of findings from research studies examining the benefits of TM for human bodies and even job performance. There is a lot of this, and I sort of felt like I was listening to an advertising pitch for TM at more than a couple of points, though the information was fascinating.

For those of us without a TM teacher to assign us a mantra, we can punt and use “ohm” while meditating. However, full-on TM cannot be taught indirectly through an audiobook because the practice requires interaction with a trained teacher to, at a minimum, provide a personal mantra. This was news to me, and I was a bit disappointed to learn that I would need to reach out to find a TM instructor to carry on with this practice.

For now, I’m going to re-listen to the guided meditations to see if I’m getting anything out of them. The book recommends people commit to a 21-day practice, twice a day, 20 minutes each.

Very informative

I enjoyed the audiobook. It was very informative. It gives a lot of detail on the history of TM and how to get started. The second half of the audiobook is the practice meditation that was very helpful.

Overall I enjoyed this audiobook and would recommend it to others.
