Love this

I love the simple introduction to the historical use of pain relief (I found this super interesting). However, what I loved was the guide, which emphasizes breaking harmful habits and offers a balanced approach to medication and non-medication therapies. In addition, with the increase in sedentary activities and long hours at the office, neck pain is on the rise. Not to mention how we look at our phones and tablets most of the day. I've even noticed younger and younger children glued to their phones/tablets instead of outside activities are on the rise, setting them up for neck pain even earlier in life. This is a must-read/listen if you're suffering. Dan shares his journey and shares exercises that strengthen and offer relief!

Relief, sweet relief…

Since the beginning of time, we have all heard a phrase similar to “older people are hunched over or have bad posture simply because they’re old.” From my own education, compiling of knowledge, and personal experience, I have come to the conclusion that this is, in fact, not the case. From my perspective, I believe that older individuals may suffer from being hunched over or bad posture (the neck being a particularly common source of discomfort) because they have simply had more time to accumulate unwanted patterns in their body (due to “bad” habits) such as tightness and dehydration in their fascia (connective tissue), myofascial problems, and so on, leading to skeletal misalignment and then, the dreaded neck pain, among other things. So it is for this reason that I recommend each individual do their homework in not just avoiding these kinds of discomforts by way of reconditioning habits (which is actually kind of nuts when you think about it - we all have some form of “bad” habits built into our bodies’ way of doing things), but by undoing the unwanted patterns WITHIN our bodies by way of powerful practices, exercises, and techniques, all of which Dan Banachowski expertly displays for us here in this wonderful audiobook. If you are suffering from neck problems then I would definitely pair the information from this book with some titles and understanding of the bodies’ fascia (connective tissue), look into John Barnes’ work, and look into myofascial release. Lots of information about the fascia is coming to light and I can say personally that diving into this stuff has changed my posture, energy, appetite, hormones, and just about everything else - not just a remedy for neck pain. Think holistically! Great stuff!

To The Rescue

This book has some excellent information, and I recommend it to anyone searching for a more holistic approach to neck pain without the use of medication or anyone with an M.D. The book provides understandable medical information with which the average person can take action whether they're dealing with chronic pain or occasional discomfort. Not just the information but the exercises are helpful too.
