Pleasant surprise!

The narrator is pretty low key, but to be honest, that may have kept the book from going over the top. I was a third of the way through, perhaps, when I realized how good he really is.

Cletus.... whoo, boy. Warren, complex, and kind of sweet for a crazy man. Boo needs more development for sure and I am already wondering if there are more Boo(k)s.

well executed but tough to listen to

this was a really dark story, but that was expected. What really surprised me is how well the story was told in only 4 hours. It felt well developed and complete. The narration is done well, too. All in all, if you want a dark, tense story, and can handle kids being abused (this aspect was especially hard for me), then this is a good one to try.

I need a breather

this story was so twisted and yet creepy in a good way I don't know how to explain it without making spoilers but it was written very well the fiction was very good and you need to understand this story isn't too long and I would have expected that's for such a complex story I would get something longer but I'm not disappointed because I don't know how would I cope with something longer it was just good as is

Chilling Story -You wont forget Cletus.

Must read book,and I will follow this author. Difficult subject matter handled so well. Be sure you have time 4 hours and11 minutes because you will want to read it all the way through in one sitting. THE TWISTED MIND OF CLETUS COMPTON is that good.

Audible makes the characters come alive. It add so much depth to the story.

A twisted story

Although this is a fictional story Susan Keene has made it so lifelike. With the way of the world these days I can actually believe there is some one out there as twisted as Cletus Compton. Robert Cunningham does a pretty good job of narrating the story at times it felt he was stuttering a bot over the words but he still kept my full attention.

Cletus Compton and his brother were abused children by his single prostitute drug addicted abusive mother. Cletus has no conscious. Warren his brother was raised the first 6 years by his father and was tough right from wrong, but with Cletus there was only so far he could go.

Cletus decides that he would make the parents of the world pay for not keeping what he felt was a good on their children. He would kidnap the kids chain them into a wooden crate and feed them animal food while waiting to till he saw fit to contact the parents for a ransom. After the parents paid the ransom he would hold them a bit longer then drop them off in a populated area and give them money to get home on. That the kids that survived his abuse.

When a young girl is found on the side of the road still one rainy night Cletus and Warren go on the run. Now it is up to the Local Police and the FBI to get the live Children home, find the dead, and most of all capture Cletus and Warren, before more people or Children die.

Wow, just wow. I don't know how you can absolutely hate one killer and feel so bad for another. This is tale of one very twisted, sick mind and one who was made to follow. Kept me riveted the entire time. The narrator did very well. The story was absolutely incredible. I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook and would recommend it to mystery/thriller lovers.

Poorly developed plot and characters

Unfortunately, this story suffers from poorly developed plot and characters. Transitions are abrupt and sometimes confusing. The problem is exacerbated by the lackluster performance of Robert Cunningham. His falsetto voicing of female characters is much too artificial and his failure to distinguish male character voices makes it difficult to follow dialog between them. This story seems superficial, lacking substance to engage the reader. And the premise can hardly be believed.

I couldn't get past the first chapter

You know from the title that the subject matter was going to be dark. That's not the reason I couldn't get past the first chapter though. The opening sequence has a psychiatrist and her husband finding a six-year-old child abandoned by the roadside. The problem for me was the narration. Not only was it difficult to tell the difference between the husband and the wife speaking, when it came time for the six-year-old to speak, everything about it was wrong. This was a pivotal character in the story and the catalyst for everything that happens. The child needed to sound like a six-year-old! I couldn't settle into the story and just stopped.
