Publisher's summary

From New York Times best-selling author Rhys Bowen comes a haunting novel about a woman who braves her father's hidden past to discover his secrets....

In 1944, British bomber pilot Hugo Langley parachuted from his stricken plane into the verdant fields of German-occupied Tuscany. Badly wounded, he found refuge in a ruined monastery and in the arms of Sofia Bartoli. But the love that kindled between them was shaken by an irreversible betrayal.

Nearly 30 years later, Hugo's estranged daughter, Joanna, has returned home to the English countryside to arrange her father's funeral. Among his personal effects is an unopened letter addressed to Sofia. In it is a startling revelation.

Still dealing with the emotional wounds of her own personal trauma, Joanna embarks on a healing journey to Tuscany to understand her father's history - and maybe come to understand herself as well. Joanna soon discovers that some would prefer the past be left undisturbed, but she has come too far to let go of her father's secrets now....

Average Spicy Story

It's a gripping story amazingly narrated. However, the end seems contrived and doesn't fit in the canvas of the entire book. All in all I found it to be an average book with a spicy story line stitching in twists and turns

The Tuscan Child

So this story was good but not my favorite of Rhys Bowen’s writing. It started out well but sort of folded on the Italian side, but I am not sure why, since that is where the drama was. The writing was good but
My issues were with the plotting and especially toward the end. The ending was a standard HEA.

Page-Turner

This for me was a super listen. I wanted to binge but didn’t want it to end. It is a WW2 mystery with mouthwatering descriptions of Italian cooking, delightful landscapes, homes, and endearing main characters. There’s just enough storytelling without it being predictable. Just enough romance, too. I listened to The Venice Sketchbook before this and loved it as well.
The narrators made the characters come alive and were very easy on the ear, so important for me. I wanted to hear more of Jonathan Keeble’s voice so have looked him up for future listening.
Please write more in this genre, Rhys.

Good story

I loved the alternate narration between a woman and a man. The story seemed to end abruptly to me.

Romance, longing, misplaced loves and family

Well written and read. Good character development. The story flowed at a nice pace and the intrigue was well developed. It kept me going and I would recommend it, highly..

Great Book!

I particullarly enjoyed this book more than I probably would have if I hadn't been studying italian the last year or so. The author did a great job with details and painting vivid pictures!

Enjoyable and relaxing, interesting plot.

What a lovely description of Tuscan food! I love the simplicity of the life in Tuscany, tge warmth of the people. The plot and links with the World War 2 was well described.
