The truth about caffeine

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would recommend this audiobook to a friend. The reason being I know a few people who drink more than 1 cup of coffee a day and/or drink caffeinated drinks during the day only because they say diet on them.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the information that was provided from the very start of the book, it answered a lot of questions and the different kinds of foods that carry caffeine.

Have you listened to any of Timothy McKean’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I have not listened to Timothy McKean, this was my first. I thought he was very clear and got the point across.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did but once the information was coming through I decided to listen in 2 sittings so I could process the information in my mind.

Any additional comments?

I found the book informative and interesting because it was well written with information that is pertinent to caffeine and many of us in society can't live without it.

No Caffeine for Me

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The performance was very even. Mr. McKean's voice was reminiscent of a lecturer at a college.

Any additional comments?

As someone who does not ingest caffeinated products, this book confirmed my decision to avoid it for over 20 years.

Not something a writer wants to hear

As a writer, I drink a great deal of coffee and tea. I wake up with coffee and I drink tea all afternoon. It appears that is a big mistake.

The book focuses on the argument of why you should not drink caffeine. There are some hints on how to eliminate caffeine from your diet but they are almost an afterthought. The primary thrust is on proposing that caffeine is bad for you and should be avoided.

From a performance point of view this book was well done. The words were clear. The pace was reasonable. And there was enough variation to keep one from falling asleep.

From a content point of view, the author makes a solid argument of the negative effects of caffeine.

All in all, a good book, although the subject matter is a little too in depth for the media.

To be taken with a grain of salt

This book is extremely informative. However, the author is very biased and I am really not convinced on the validiy of most of the claims. For example there is a part about how fluoride is bad for you, hoewever, it has been shown that fluoride has many benefits for the overall health and is not harmful at all. Another example is at some point the author says how bad vitamin C defeciency is. Which is true, but there hasnt been a case of severe vitamin C deficiency since at least a hundred years ago. I might be wrong about all this but just take this book with a grain of salt. With all that being said, it's very informative and i recommend it. It warns about many dangers that are very real about caffeine.

The scary truth about caffeine

What did you love best about The Truth about Caffeine?

It's a real eye opener about the addiction and the affects of caffeine. And, like smoking or drinking, it's a tough addiction to break. It was very well written and narrated with strong medical facts to back up the author's claim.

A REAL LIFE HORROR STORY

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book is a must read for anyone who ingests caffeine, whether via coffee or any other substance. You would be doing a disservice to your caffeine-drinking friends if you do not do so.

What about Timothy McKean’s performance did you like?

The audio is very easy to listen to, with the narrator speaking clearly and at an excellent pace, given the contents which are at times complex but always interesting.

Any additional comments?

This is a real-life horror story about the dangers of a product that we all consume on a daily basis. I'm not a scientist - I can't vouch for the scientific facts set forth in this book. However, if you drink lots of caffeine you'll want to try and become one, because the problems associated with caffeine as stated in this book are horrifying, especially for women.

This is a must 'read.'

Caffeine

What did you love best about The Truth about Caffeine?

I enjoyed the smooth and easy listening presentation. Most author that write about coffee and how it is related to health issues. Fail to impart the info in a step by step manner. Rendering the info some what murky. This was clear and precise as most of us would want our info. Cheers great job.Richard Porter

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

How could I have not known about this?

Would you consider the audio edition of The Truth about Caffeine to be better than the print version?

Yes. It was very easy to listen to.

What did you like best about this story?

It exposes the fraud, misinformation, and cover-ups in the caffeine industry. Many Americans think caffeine is a harmless drug. As The Truth About Caffeine clearly outlines, it's anything but. Much of this information came as a shock. But it all checks out.

Which character – as performed by Timothy McKean – was your favorite?

n/a

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I sat through it in hour-long chunks while I drove. It's too long for just one sitting (for me anyways), but it kept me coming back.

Any additional comments?

I'm amazed that more people aren't talking about this. It's time the truth comes out. I applaud Kushner's efforts and hope more people follow in these footsteps.

Very informative on a must know subject

Where does The Truth about Caffeine rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It was an easy listen. One of the better narrations I've heard.

What did you like best about this story?

Very informative book. Includes a great deal of information everyone should know about caffeine. Their was talk of caffeine addiction being included as a disorder in the newest mental health guide (DSM) update. I'm not sure if they put it in the 5th edition or not but even if they're only considering it, it's worthy of taking notice. Almost everyone ingests caffeine. It's put in everything. Therefore, everyone needs to learn about the dangers. This books covers the basics well and is easy to understand.

Have you listened to any of Timothy McKean’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No
