Publisher's summary

Truth: From over a thousand miles away, I watched on the screen of my phone as two men murdered my wife.

And I was helpless to save her.

Consumed by hate and rage, I spent four years running from my memories - until a shattered woman gave me a reason to stop.

Cora lived in a nightmare, but through sheer force of will, she’d turned it into something beautiful. She had a smile that could pierce the darkest soul. And with one glance, she shredded mine.

Lie: I was only there for a fresh start.

Lie: I had no idea what I was getting myself into.

Lie: There was nothing I could do to save her either.

But that’s the thing about lies - you never know who to believe.

Awesome story

I was captivated from start to finish. Love the male narrator but the female annoyed me some, but if you can get pass the slow way she reads and some of her voice acting for some of these girls (especially 16 yr old Savannah) you will find a gem in the story. On to book 2 to see how the story ends.

Guh

Aly Martinez and her duets... good Lord. I can’t get over them and this one slayed me even more.

The secrets and lies and truths and the most shocking of all reveals. I think I ran the gamut of emotions and I won’t be able to chill out for a while. My heart beats for this duet.

I wasn’t exactly thrilled with the narration. Although John Lane was fantastic, I did get pulled out of the book by a few of Cynthia Farrell’s voices. She made Drew sound like he wasn’t quite all there. Her male voices just need less of a pause to feel fluent.

But honestly... I would listen to this over and over regardless of narration.

mostly good, male narrator needs to slow down

The male narrator is way too fast. I wasn't having a hard time understanding him, he had a clear and crisp and attractive voice, but he just sounded like he was rushing through the narration. I had to slow it down. other than that it was a good love story. some things are left unresolved so be aware of that.

Holy shit!

This book is awesome! What a ride. Yes, it's a cliff hanger but I can't wait to listen to the second half.

🎧 Cora and Penn 🎧

Twisty-turny dual POV featuring a heartbroken heroine battling to keep herself and 30 other women alive and safe, and a devastated widower on a different mission.
Excellent narration from both John Lane and Cynthia Farrell. Straight on to book 2 after that cliffhanger!

SPECTACULAR.. EPIC.. TRAGIC.. BEAUTIFUL..10 ⭐️s

This has got to be one of THE best Duets I have ever ever listened to.. and trust me there have been way too many. The epic rollercoaster story starts in such a dark place.. then, as the unique and compelling storyline slowly lifts, unfurls, builds and reveals its gems, there is intrigue, suspense, mystery, secrets, angst, drama, passion, danger, romance, heartache and twists. The full cast of loveable bruised secondary characters all steer the storyline towards the light. But, it is the intense chemistry and slow-building romance between two very damaged people, that really pulls you in.. will keep you there within its virtual pages riveted by every well-placed word.. and the ending will have you frantically downloading book 2 as soon as this one ends.. or even sooner.

Aly Martinez has written a moving, gritty, powerful, all-consuming, emotional dual POV story about survival, second-chances and love.. and the lives and struggles of her characters will hook you from the very beginning. The well-written flawless chapters all too quickly whizz by.. then, just as AM starts to piece your heart back together again, she further wows.. whoas.. and woos you with unforeseen sucker punches, bloody actions, jaw-dropping revelations, touching truths and sweet sweet endings. Her strong loveable characters are all skilfully brought to life by these two wonderful narrators who brought their A game, delivered stellar performances and made this, and book 2, the perfect listen.

Worth a credit? Yes absolutely.. this is a very impressive dark-to-light love story that is split into two.. book 1 ends with a cliffhanger and book 2 ends on a beautiful day.

Yes - It’s that good

I don’t write a lot of reviews but felt this needed one. This isn’t a warm and fuzzy book. But it has plenty of emotion. Plenty of love. I just LOVE it. I am glad that I can quickly down the follow up.
Truth - my heart is broken. Lie - I’m not downloading the next book now.
