Meet Russell Finch
Say hello to everyone’s favorite raunchy fiction writer: Russell Finch. Though his debut novel, Gettin’ Naughty, landed at number one on The New York Times Best Seller list, Mr. Finch’s fame quickly evaporated. Desperate for ideas for his new novel, Russell may have found his solution thanks to a visit from an eccentric member of the Syndicate.

Meet the Nemesis
For decades, the remote town of McBride has been shrouded in mystery and haunted by ghosts of the past. Crime boss Donand Maze II and his underground empire shepherded its descent into chaos. Now, years later, McBride is in ruins, and its dark past is reawakened when Russell Finch is lured there under dubious circumstances.

The Swerve
DC Chase’s third novel, The Trouble with Mr. Finch is yet another rollercoaster ride full of plot twists. Mixing elements of Friday the 13th minus the gore with a splash of Goodfellas, Mr. Chase has delivered yet another novel in the Hot to Trot Series that will leave the reader begging for more.

I really enjoyed how this book blends dark humour, crime, and suspense into something that feels fast-paced and unpredictable. Russell Finch is a flawed, entertaining lead, and the idea of a washed-up, controversial writer being pulled into something far bigger and darker than himself works brilliantly. The story doesn’t waste time getting interesting, and once it hits its stride, it keeps throwing curveballs.
The setting of McBride adds a strong sense of atmosphere. The town’s past, the shadowy criminal influence, and the lingering sense that something is deeply wrong all build tension nicely. I liked how the novel balances moments of humour with genuinely unsettling elements, giving it a crime-thriller feel without becoming overly heavy or grim.

The Trouble with Mr. Finch by DC Chase is a sharp, fast-paced audiobook that blends mystery, dark humor, and suspense in an unusual but engaging way. The story follows Russell Finch, a washed-up novelist pulled into a strange town filled with shady characters, old crimes, and unsettling secrets. What stood out most was the conversational narrative voice, which feels like Finch talking directly to you, adding dry humor while still keeping the tension high. Short chapters and frequent twists keep the pacing tight and make it easy to stay hooked. While the style may take a moment to adjust to, it fits the story well and adds personality. Overall, it is an entertaining listen with strong momentum and a surprising finish.

This was such an entertaining listen. The chemistry was immediate, the banter was sharp, and the pacing kept things moving without dragging. I liked how the characters felt confident and flawed at the same time, which made their dynamic more engaging. The narration added personality and warmth, especially during the lighter, flirtier moments. It was easy to get swept up in the tension and humor. I finished it smiling and ready for whatever comes next in the series.

I wanted something light and entertaining, and this totally delivered. The characters feel real, with plenty of awkward moments and laugh out loud situations. I found myself smiling during chores because I couldn’t wait to get back to it. The romance builds in a way that feels natural and earned, not rushed. It kept me entertained from start to finish and was perfect for winding down after long days. Easy to enjoy and hard to pause.
