Acerca de esta escucha
The irrepressible, audacious defence barrister Horace Rumpole whose court scenes are proverbial, and whose home is ruled by Mrs Rumpole, is back in these short stories by John Mortimer. The much loved stories were adapted from his scripts for the hugely popular TV series of the same name.

Following the best-selling Summer of a Dormouse, Sir John Mortimer - playwright, novelist, octogenarian, and erstwhile QC - offers up more lessons in living and growing old disgracefully. What would we like to leave to our descendants? Not a third-rate painting or our PEPS, according to Sir John, but a love of Shakespeare, a taste for alcohol, the ability to defeat boredom, the importance of never locking the lavatory door, and so on.

'Rumpole and the Man of God': It is 1959, and Rumpole must defend a clergyman accused of shoplifting who, although he clearly did not commit the crime, is curiously reluctant to be cross-examined under oath. Rumpole unenthusiastically accompanies Hilda and her cousin to a very fashionable restaurant. Rumpole hates the ostentatious ambiance and pretentious food with its scant portions. He requests steak and kidney pudding. Jean Pierre O'Higgins, the owner, is insulted that Rumpole would expect him to prepare such low-class dishes. Suddenly, pandemonium strikes when a live mouse jumps out from the serving dish at another table. Unfortunately, the diners are Erskine-Brown with an attractive colleague that he's romancing.

Historia
Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey are unquestionably two of the greatest epic masterpieces in Western literature. Though more than 2,700 years old, their stories of brave heroics, capricious gods, and towering human emotions are vividly timeless. The Iliad can justly be called the world’s greatest war epic. The terrible and long-drawn-out siege of Troy remains one of the classic campaigns. The Odyssey chronicles the many trials and adventures Odysseus must pass through on his long journey home from the Trojan wars to his beloved wife.

I love Rumpole
If you could sum up The Trials of Rumpole in three words, what would they be?
I'm completely biased.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
It kept me settled way back in my easy chair. Like listening to an old friend.
What about Bill Wallis’s performance did you like?
I had no sense he was seeking my approval. In this respect, how like the great barrister himself. A lot of mumbling under his breath as to the Old Bull.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I love it when Rumpole allows himself to feel real affection for,
Any additional comments?
I have heard a number of narrators do Rumpole and somehow I've been able to get very comfortable with all of them.

Sarcastic, witty and brilliant
I have 4/5 for narrator because I thought Patrick Tull performed the character of Rumpole sightly better, but in reality this is superb. All the voices are great including Rumpole and the stories are interesting and characters hilarious with a nice message in each one for those of us who aren't great at the whole symbolism thing...
