Publisher's Summary

I've dealt with my share of homelessness. I've endured being the bad gal in the room. I’ve taken a lot of life’s punches on the chin. But never did I expect to be forced to attend an academy full of power-hungry delinquents.

Born with powers far too great to control, I ended up homeless at eight years old. With my family gone, I lived on the streets, learning quickly that the world was just as cold as my beating heart.

Because I carry all eight magic elements, enemies sought me out from every dark corner. Luckily, I was saved and taken in by Alaric Masters, headmaster of Tracker Hive Academy.

My name is Jade Storm, and I’m the youngest recruit to become a Tracker.

Now that I'm eighteen, Alaric is insisting that I attend the academy. I’ll do it, but on my own terms. My only goal is to learn just how powerful I am and breeze through the next four years. I have no interest in joining any cliques, and I’m not here to make friends. If there’s one thing life has taught me, it’s that I work best alone.

However, the Troubled Four - Zeke, Zion, Zackery, and Zeus - have other plans. Quadruplets who together carry all eight elements, the boys are desperate to make me submit to their trickery. They’re stupid to think I’ll play by anyone's rules but my own.

I can handle whatever threats, traps, bullying, and schemes are thrown my way, because I'm not here to be a good student. I'm here to keep my secret safe from those who will do everything to see me perish.

Game on.

This is an 18+ Academy Romance.

This should be a YA story

This is a YA story nothing more, and not a good story. The characters are one dimensional. Jade’s dad found her living on the streets when she was 8-years-old and adopted her. At eighteen Jade had to attend the academy where her dad is the headmaster. Jade saw this mandate as purgatory. She is not a team player and she is a rule breaker.

By the time we heard 41% of the story we were introduce to the characters. There was a high school orientation, and a bulling incident. She meets the Quadruplets, Troubled Four: Zeke, Zackery Zeus, and Zion (Zs). She shares 2 powers with each of them. When close to them power calls to power and they become sexually excited and the magical power intensifies. She is immature and sexually inexperience in relationships. She cannot discern what she finds attractive or what she needs in a relationship. To make is easier the Zs decided that all of them can date her.

Where is it ok for a young 18-year-old to have a sexual relationship with four adult men. In addition, the Zs can read each other’s minds. Yep, they know the sexual fantasy Zeke has about her.

At this point you are approximately, 58% in the book and she is going on her first date with one of the Z’s. The mystery was only slightly mentioned. The mystery centers about who wants to sabotage the school. I had enough YA antics that I did not finish the story. Hope you fare better.

The narrator’s Shade Jade voice was grating and could not vary the Zs voice enough.

Terrible narrator.

Unfortunately, I could not even finish this book because the narrator's voice grated my nerves. I'll have to actually read the book to find out if it's any good since I've wasted my money on the audible.

Boring and very high school drama

The prose for this book read very much like a high school girl wanting to be the popular girl. We are given very contradicting traits about the FMC she cares about the environment and excessive waste (especially for clothes)...turn around and she buys a Ferris wheel on a whim and got her credit card taken away for multiple clothes shopping sprees.
The four guys all seem to be the same character with which ever one is present is just the main emotion being felt at the time. Feeling sassy and sexy? Give me Zeke. Feeling broody and angry? Give me Zion.
Narration was just as bad. All the guys where given the same tone of voice.

Bunch of woke bs

The story might be ok if you can wade through all the woke bs. Could have tolerated it if it added to the story line, but seems more like the author is using the book to spew their ideology instead of telling a fun story. There’s a whole section with a lecture on recycling, and constant lectures on the horrors of child homelessness and trafficking. The author makes as though the one year the heroine spent homeless would overpower the 17 years she spent in warm, loving homes. That’s not how the 8 year old brain works. Children are incredibly resilient with an amazing capacity to heal and love. Felt like the author picked some hot button topics and tried to cram them into the current story preference. Disappointing. Couldn’t finish it.

Nope

DNF. Honestly, I only got thought the very beginning. Maybe it will get better, but I doubt it. I just can't take it any more. Awkward writing and even more awkward narrator. Use conjunctions, that's how people talk. The 8 year old is way too mature and does a lot of explaining, and the narrator is overly dramatic.

A Good Start To A New Series

Unfortunately this author has a habit of not finishing any of the series she starts. There are more than one series (in the two names she uses) that have been left hanging for years that she's not attempted to carry on with or finish.

Great story not wild about the narration

Loving the story and characters, some of the dialogue particularly during the intimate moments is a bit eye-rolley, but overall a good story and I'll get book 2. I'm not wild about the narrator tbh, I personally find her inflection quite annoying, and sometimes difficult to follow when she rolls narrative and dialogue together without pausing or different voices - it's hard to know when Jade is having internal dialogue/thoughts or an actual conversation. But hey - it might just be me.
