In 1927 the first three Hardy Boys books were published and they entered the Public Domain on January 1, 2023. I took the opportunity to record all three books and will be releasing the unabridged recordings this year. Can’t wait for you to share them with your kids like I did with mine so many years ago …

Here’s a brief outline of this story:

Frank and Joe Hardy, sons of the world famous detective Fenton Hardy, tackle their first case as budding detectives themselves. Although still in High School, the boys experience exciting chases, hold ups, robberies, clues, and false accusations; they winnow through mounds of evidence and conflicting stories, get some assistance from their famous father, and search and climb till they find the answer to the mystery of The Tower Treasure!

This is the first of the Hardy Boys book series. I read them when I was a boy and I enjoyed them, but after watching a local children’s play based on the Hardy Boys stories I decided to go back and read them through again. And so, this is my first in the series. In this story, Frank and Joe need to solve the mystery of a robbery of items from a rich but very eccentric brother and sister. The father of one of their friends…well, chums…is implicated. The mystery isn’t particularly complex and the story does seem to drag in places, but I can see why it captured my interest as a boy. This story is set in the 1920s and it is interesting to note the vast cultural and social changes since then. Overall, once you understand that these are children’s easy reading books, they make for a good trip down memory lane. A word on Jim Hodges as a narrator. At first I was mildly annoyed because he reads so expressively, but then I remembered that this is a kid’s story and he is reading it as such.
