Publisher's summary

The Time Machine is a science fiction novella by H. G. Wells, published in 1895 and written as a frame narrative. The work is generally credited with the popularization of the concept of time travel by using a vehicle that allows an operator to travel purposely and selectively forward or backward in time. The term "time machine", coined by Wells, is now almost universally used to refer to such a vehicle. The book's protagonist is an English scientist and gentleman inventor living in Richmond, Surrey, in Victorian England, and identified by a narrator simply as the Time Traveller.

The narrator recounts the Traveller's lecture to his weekly dinner guests that time is simply a fourth dimension and his demonstration of a tabletop model machine for travelling through it. He reveals that he has built a machine capable of carrying a person through time, and returns at dinner the following week to recount a remarkable tale, becoming the new narrator.

Classic

There's really not much to say.
I enjoyed listening to this book.
Of course, it's a classic and almost everyone has heard of it.
Being only familiar with the 1960's movie version though,
it was refreshing and interesting to hear the book version at last.

An exciting journey through time....

This is a wonderful classic. Entertaining from cover to cover in my opinion. The voice of Carson Beck really draws you into the novella (or me at least). Also, the narraive structure of the story is very interesting I think.

There are several Film versions of "The Time Machine". I prefer audiobooks though as they leave more room for the imagination.

The mention of the surroundings looking "like South Kensington" for instance triggered a whole lot of images in my mind and I knew exactly what it must look like in the future :-)

Also, the end of the book was unexpected / a surprise to me.

I can only recommend going on a journey through time to everybody - you will definitely be well entertained.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Wow! Never angry with Wells

This was a great listen, very captivating and honestly I mostly followed along with the book, because my brain can't focus. The narration was smooth and calming, I could almost fall asleep, but the story itself was exciting and unique! I didn't expect it to turn the way it did, I also didn't expect Wells's futuristic world to be the way it was.

Short, but worth it!

If you haven’t read this story before, do it now!

It is a classic, of course, but still so relevant. You won’t be disappointed!
