My husband loved it, it was over my head!

My husband and I share a love of Science-Fiction. This book is heavy on science and to be honest, was too much for me. But my brilliant husband thought it was a great book and appreciated all the accurate scientific points, and the theoretical science as well. The concept is great,

Unique

To read or listen to a story who’s central characters and landscape are not the standard western worlds PoV added an interesting depth to this story. It is a story of people more than technology or tired space battle plots. This is a journey of mind, soul and heart with a satisfying story and ending. We humans are really odd, brain damaged and wonderful creatures.

Hard science was an understatement

I normally do not enjoy hard science scifi. This is because I am listening while I work and can not always concentrate on the book. But, this book had me rewinding so often because it sucked me in and I did not want to miss anything.

Let's be humble, human!

Great hardcore sifi novel. Not too hard to imagine the despair and desperation for professor Ye when she went through all the darkness and madness of china's culture revolution.

science geek

has a bit of science in it. characters were good but had some trouble keeping track of Chinese names. not sure I understood the ending either.

Written by a scientist?

The story line was delightful. And yet there were so many super times the story dragged out incredibly so that I was tempted to stop and move on. Then that delightful story line would show up again, only to be buried in the minutiae that could have been summarized in order to present the needed information without causing me to lose interest, again and again. That being said, I will try another book of Cixin Liu.

Ayn Rand-ish, odd, enjoyable

I usually really like Like Daniels performance, but this one is weird. I think it's partly the writing style, and maybe the slight impedance mismatch between Chinese and American (me) culture. the development is uneven, sometimes slow, sometimes meteoric. I'm not sure how sound the deep premiss is, but it does provoke thought.

That's pretty much what sold me, other than it being a masterwork by Cixin Liu, but it's read by Luke Daniels.
