In the 70 years since the demise of the Third Reich, there has been a significant transformation in the ways in which the modern world understands Nazism. In this brilliant and eye-opening collection, Richard J. Evans offers a critical commentary on that transformation, exploring how major changes in perspective have informed research and writing on the Third Reich in recent years. Drawing on his most notable writings from the last two decades, Evans reveals the shifting perspectives on Nazism's rise to political power, its economic intricacies, and its subterranean extension into postwar Germany.

each book is better than the first. your writing is genius
there is no author as conscise and captivating than this man. everyone of his books borders on brilliant written, not covering the standard Nazi abuses, crimes and killing of a continent. he brings you back to a very specific time the atmosphere of unrest and chaos was every present. .

Sweeping historiography
Only a master of the subject could craft such a comprehensive review. Evens' review of the leading works on the Third Reich is a review of the major themes of the subject, a review of the historical interpretations of those themes, and literary criticism. Evens succeeds on all counts. Although Evens can be a pointed critic, it is also made clear that the works reviewed are the best in the field. 'The Third Reich in History and Memory' is a reminder that the most valuable aspect of studying history is not creating an impressive pile of data or cultivating nostalgia, it is investgating the dynamics of an evolving humanity.
