#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • WINNER OF THE BOOKER PRIZE • A gripping return to Gilead, The Testaments exposes the regime’s inner decay through the intersecting stories of three women whose choices could ignite its downfall.

Now a Hulu Original series starring Ann Dowd, reprising her role as Aunt Lydia, Chase Infiniti as Agnes, and Lucy Halliday as Daisy.

The Testaments can be read on its own or as a sequel to Margaret Atwood’s classic, The Handmaid’s Tale.

More than fifteen years after the events of The Handmaid's Tale, the theocratic regime of the Republic of Gilead maintains its grip on power, but there are signs it is beginning to rot from within. At this crucial moment, the lives of three women converge, with potentially explosive results. Two have grown up as part of the first generation to come of age in the new order. The testimonies of these two young women are joined by that of Aunt Lydia, whose complex past and uncertain future unfold in surprising and pivotal ways.

With The Testaments, Margaret Atwood opens up the innermost workings of Gilead, as each woman is forced to come to terms with who she is and how far she will go for what she believes.

I listened to it in one day. It's very well written and narrated. I love the TV show and was surprised when I read the Handmaid's Tale that the book was so short and sparse. I was quite disappointed as it simply ends rather abruptly. I found this book far more enjoyable. I will leave it at that to avoid spoilers.
*My only issue with this audiobook was the section pages narrated by the author. She sounded completely drugged which I found jarring every time I heard her.

Much better than the first book!

I really did enjoy this book and nearly all the narrations. The one exception being the author herself when she was verbalizing the chapter numbers... It was a bit weird. This was an amazing follow up novel. It had wonderful character development and story depth! I loved it!

Wonderfully ties in w/ Handmaid's tale!

First want to say that the vocal performances for this were all perfect. What a treasure to add Derek Jacobi at the end. And perfect to have Atwood’s voice reading chapter titles. I’m not going to write much because I don’t want to give spoilers but I really love that this book focused less on the repressive scary male dominated side of Gilead and the most repressed women, (Handmaids)and fleshed out more how other women existed in such a repressive society carving out small areas in which they had more power-specifically the aunts. It’s too easy fri the tv show and previous book to see the aunts as one dimensional evil overseers. But the psychologist in me thinks about Milgram obedience to authority research and I’ve always been fascinated by the story of someone who might give in to doing something ugly or violent when they feel they have no choice, and the aftereffects of that. That is explored in a really interesting way in this book. Also this book tells the story of June’s two daughters with a very satisfying ending. I ended up being unable to stop listening until I got to the end. Thank you, Margaret Atwood, for a sequel worth a couple of decades of waiting!

Wonderful follow up to the Handmaids Tale

I was nervous for this book. Afraid that it may change my perspective or obsession with THT. NOPE! I’m still in love with the stories of Gilead.

A good sequel considering the impact of The Handmaid’s Tale. I appreciated the diary-like format told in the character’s voices.

multiple narrators added to the story
