Publisher's summary

Lynn is an imprinter, one chosen by the Goddess to receive her greatest gift, that of creating new life. So why does she feel like a prisoner in the Temple?

When Lynn learns she is to be relocated to the temple at Landfall, the arduous journey seems more like a gift - her last chance to see something of the outside world. She does not anticipate the dangers and temptations she will encounter along the way, nor does she expect Lieutenant Kim Ramon, an officer in the squadron of Rangers assigned to protect her. Despite all prohibitions forbidding it, attraction grows between the two women.

Against them stand the powerful religious Sisterhood and their holy warriors - the Temple Guards. In a world ruled by the Church, what chance is there that Lynn can escape?

Such a great story

I love this book and all the Celano series. And I wanted to give the narrator a full five stars since she did such a great job with the characters, but there was the audio overlap (which I could ignore since it is an encoding and recording error) and a couple of words were mispronounced.

Interesting story, can’t wait for more

This was a great story, written and performed well. For a fantasy, was very easy to understand and empathize with the characters and the science fiction aspects weren’t so unbelievable either. This is definitely a story I want to hear more about. There were some problems with the editing of the audio, but it didn’t detract from the performance.

Interesting

who ever edited the Audio track needs to lose their job. the performance of the reader was good enough.

Characters were good, if not a bit clumsy in their development, with Kim having the best out of all.

The World Building felt to vague at some points and like the Characters... a bit clumsy in construction.

The back story had a similar concept to the Pillars of Reality Series by Jack Campbell.

The story itself was nothing like Pillars of Reality. Where Campbell berate you with one super tense scene and near impossible escape after another... Lynn and Kim have a far less dangerous and deadly adventure feeling almost like an innocent F/F teen novel... well almost... A fun story that however didn't have me looking for more.... Interesting but not unforgettable.

One of my favorite series...

I can't believe they put one of my favorite books on audio. I love this series and hope all the books are put on audio. I've read each book numerous times, except The Shadow of the Knife which I just can't get into. I like the characters, the plot of each story and the overall story of the series.

While I love this book it's not my favorite in the series. The series revolves around a planet that was colonized by people that fled the earth. Years have past, history lost and new beliefs have arisen. Its an all female and very religious society (how this happened is explained in the appendix). While there is romance in the story, I wouldn't say that's the main focus. The story focuses on the life of each of the two women. It furthers deals a lot with the planet's society, their beliefs and a rebel faction that has developed.

The narrator can make or break a book, I discovered this with the poor narration of Protector of the Realm by Gunn Brooke. The narrator had a pleasant voice, clear and easy to understand.

The recording does overlap in areas, which needs to be fixed, but didn't occur so much it took away from the story.

I liked it

Awesome story, there are some audio issues but they can be over looked for this story.

Great with exceptions

Honestly it would get higher stars except for the audio quality. The narrator is good. The story is interesting but whoever recorded it apparently fell asleep at the wheel a few times. If any attempt to fix it was made they failed. The good news it only happens in a handful of spots and lasts a few seconds each time before smoothing our again. The bad news is clearly no one listened to the recording in its full before selling it or after trying to fix it as this would not pas a proof hearing with those spots if they listened full through. And considering the prior review being up for years and still nothing has been done either no one cares or bothers reading reviews except customers. So the less stars it’s literally all on the recorder and not the narrator. I likely will keep it because it is just a few spots and this is a rare lesbian fantasy but honestly I might trade it because I can and because I try to only keep the highest quality pieces. It is just sad that such a little thing like checking your work as a recorder all the way through could have saved them so much.

The narration was...ok

UPADTED 2/27/17: So I usually listen to audio books on drives and to fall asleep to. i recently relistened to this one and found the editing was way worse than weird pauses during the narration. There are actual places where the audio tracks seem to cross each other and feels as if paets may be missing or skipped l because of this. According to one review, Audible was contacted but it seems nothing has been done to fix it.

The book is amazing and I highly recommend it. The narrator's voice was very nice and pleasant to listen through. She did a good job of differentiating the characters' voice enough for you to know who was talking. My biggest problem was her pausing. Conversations between characters had long pauses that just broke up the flow. It can really get in the way of trying to emerge yourself in the story. If that could rectified for the next reading, this would be a narrator I would enjoy more.
